I was hoping that a little of last weeks rain may have still been in the river but not so unfortunately but we go with what we find but is running very low indeed .
A quiet start in the morning with the fly but mayfly started to show in reasonable number approx 12pm till about 3pm and some olives knocking about too .The fish where pretty eager to the dry fly (a bit too eager at times!) but seems I was rather a bit too on the strike ! A better fish than me today would have added a very good number to those that did find their way to my net !
Masses of spinner in the fields and bushes in the evening but no real fall to speak of.
As always an absolute joy to be wandering about this time of year in the shadow of the black mountain and fabulous to see the trout feasting and looking very fat and fine ! Seems there's quite a good number in the river here at the moment .

Note to WUF...your most likely aware but will mention anyway...approx 100yards below the assault course thingy theres a humdinger of a tree across the river , bank to bank, and a huge amount of brash built up on it . Maybe 5 foot tall? A beaver would be proud but we don't want any of those do we.
Shame as was a cracking run and pool there but know the value of LWD (even if well over done here!) and the trout will be safe here for a while I guess

Enjoyable days fishing and exploring a new beat to me. River predictably low at around 10" but still enough flow to work the fly in pools at top and bottom of beat. 4 brownies to 4lb on salmon flies and a 15lb pike from Llangoed pool on FC. A nice stretch of river and not as heavily booked as Rectory and will return when another foot on the gauge. Ah and not a canoe to be seen all day, the prime reason for booking above Glasbury!

The weather was not too bad and as B had a fish on the fly of 12lb on Friday 19th we were in good spirits. As I am a relative beginner with the salmon rod you will probably have a laugh now. B S was with me to help and guide me down through the pool under the bridge with three long boards, we fished the top of the run and down on to the first board, half way down that board B said "ok pal you're fine now, no problems" and went to tack up himself with the spinning rod.
I reached the end of the board and a fish took! Now the fun part, I was told do not strike like a trout just let the fish take it and raise your rod, I did this with B shouting "Give it some wellie! Hit it!" by this time my rod was at twelve o'clock and I had no where to go, as you can guess off it came.
With a rollicking in my ear I started again, finished the second board on to the third when wham my rod went over, well I hit this one but it felt totally different to the first fish. I landed it and it was a shad. I do know what it feels like to have a salmon on the fly having played a fish B hooked and playing fish on the spinning rod.
So one salmon lost, one shad caught and confirmation of B catching one on Friday for all the doubters out there.

Sunny, cloudy, windy, river very low and clear. Although good numbers of fish rising, many were taking short, resulting in short hook ups or misses. However, we did manage to catch seven trout, with the two best fish at 2lbs. and 2.5lbs. All caught on small dries of varying types.

Fished from 9:30 until 12:30. Very few fish rising, even when a hatch of mayfly emerged. Lots of empty mayfly shucks, so possibly occupying fish below surface. Even though, I managed 5 grayling to the nymph below a bushy dry, 2 of which were a good size of about 1.5 lb. most trout were also decent size, taking nymph or dry. My first double hook up too, with 2 trout of about three quarters of a pound giving me a run around! Very overgrown and lots of climbing in and out required. Spooked a deer next to the river too about 10 yards away. I'm not sure which of us jumped the most!
