None caught, only a couple of takes. Nice day, though and conditions were good with reasonable hatch.

Arrived to find another car unexpectedly in the car park. Turned out to be two fly fishermen (with all the fancy gear), fishing without permission. Reported this to the Owner. It seems that poachers are becoming more sophisticated! Having sent them on their way I enjoyed a lovely day on this one of my favourite Usk beats. Fishing was a little slow with just sporadic LDO and March Browns hatching, but managed three trout to 13": on on nymph 2 on dry. All returned.

WUF Note: Thanks for reporting the poachers! If you ever see anything suspicious, always report it.

Although never exactly pleasant, today's conditions were far more fly and fish friendly. Overcast and breezy all with occasional light rain. There was no activity of note until 1pm, when March Browns started hatching in decent numbers with a smattering of LDOs. The fish duly responded, providing excellent dryfly sport throughout the afternoon. 9 fish between 10-15", all on March Brown Jingler.

My first try at this beat, suspect it needs a little more water than today to bring a few more pools into play. Two trout of about 10" to a weighted GRHE. No fly-life today, probably a bit cold.

After fishing Llanddewi in the morning gave Aberbwtran a try despite steady rain. Two trout of about 12" to a beadhead pheasant tail nymph and two out of season grayling to a weighted red tag, the first being a deep bodied cock fish of 18", the second, also a cock fish, was about 14". Two more fish hooked and lost (grayling I think). Though not the longest beat there is lots of fishable water here. A few olives were coming off as I finished at 4.30, and one or two fish rising.

River a little on the high side (and rising) but perfectly fishable. Had a good run through most pools on the fly but without getting attached to anything. Did mange to net a 14 pound plus bar of silver for Mick from Birmingham. Looking forward to my next visit.

Fished above the bridge and caught 6 trout up to 10 inches on a nymph fished under a dry fly. Downstream wind made casting difficult at times and also missed a few takes to the nymph, nothing rose for the dry fly. Saw Kingfishers and a eel.
