Light hatch of grannom in am. Very few rises. Trout took gold head nymph, grayling took blue dun . Downstream wind a real pain.

Tough day; lost a good fish

Water good height and clear. No fish seen.

Just like this time last year (although that visit was a month earlier) a great day in prospect with no return? No true hatch and only 1 ot 2 fish seen so the "early season river" legend remains a mystery? Might be an idea sawp flies for boilies as the resident chub are very impressive but couldn't be tempted to a ptn!

6 out of season grayling to 12" on a black spider and beadhead hare's ear. Quite a few olives hatching stimulated fish to rise fairly freely at about 10am but much less so thereafter. A stiff downstream breeze mid afternoon made casting hard work.

A couple of hours in the morning in beautiful sunshine with the river now gin clear produced 1 12in trout. Sadly had to leave before things warmed up literally and metaphorically, as they did the day before.

Nothing taken. Saw a couple of splashes and a large trout by the bank so the fish were there... no hatch.
Beautiful spot, wading over boulders tricky at times. I would give it another go. River at 0.9m
