9 Barbel

A quick check of the river gauges and webcams on-line prevented a wasted journey, up and coloured would put it mildly!
Still, always another day…

I did not fish. The river was in flood!

What a day, 12 Barbel in total, 2 at 9lb 8oz, 1 at 8lb 6oz, 1 at 8lb 4oz and the rest were between 4lb to 6lb. Due the high water level and fast flow it was impossible to fish the bend. The only place to fish was the straight, down from the sewage works. Again due to the pace of the river we needed 5oz lead to hold the bottom. We fished only 2 rod lengths out. The water temperature was 6c, and the level dropping slowly. The weather was 9c with sunshine and showers. My fishing partner caught 7 and myself 5. The best days fishing on the Wye we have had for the time of year. Looking forward to our final day, tomorrow, at Backney Upper.

12 Barbel

Just one of those dissapointing days, conditions were all wrong. Still a lovely spot, will be back!!

Water high but clear. Water temperature 7c. Water dropping very slowly. Went around the woods, ground very slippery, fished first 2 pegs had one barbel. Moved into woods not a bite. Moved back to first meadow, fished last 2 pegs caught 4 barbel biggest 8lb 2oz lost 2. Fishing partner had 2 small Chub. On to Courtfield tomorrow.

River well up from Doris! However managed a small chub and a 10lb Barbel.

Fabulous day with a tinge in the river, but fishable. Good hatch of LDOs and an excellent hatch of March Browns after lunch. Trout nailed the flies. Memorable day.
