Fished by kind invitation of S.W. as part of a Kola old boys reunion. Attempted to cure the affliction (salmon madness) by some grayling fishing. Had a great time in wonderful surroundings and with entertaining company. Fished for salmon with the double handed but with low water even in very fishy pools only one brown trout hit the fly. Caught a brace of 1 1/2 lb grayling on dry fly. Not quite as many as some members of the Welsh Fly fishing team fishing with us! Learned a lot from talking and watching them extract fish with consummate ease. Thanks a lot boys. The river started rising next day after heavy overnight rain. The affliction returned and ended up fishing the Elan junction pool feeling in with a great chance until too much colour halted proceedings. A big thank you to owner Richard for allowing us to share this beautiful beat. Another highlight was seeing 8 Red Kites circling like vultures overhead. One of us must have been looking off colour! Great weekend and thanks to all concerned

My last day of the season fizzled out I'm afraid.... The rain that had been forecast for the weekend had not happened, so the water remained very low (almost dry on the Brecon gauge). After about 4 hours there was one splash from a salmon, and one grilse showed itself later in the day, but that was it.
Typically, the rain arrived during early morning of the 17th. It's the third year in a row that there hasn't been any water until, or after the end of the season. I wish the season could be extended by at least a week in these circumstances.
Nil catch.

Having caught 2 3lb chub on the first few trots down the swim I chose on red maggot I thought I was in for a field day. Then I waited seven hours for another.
Nice to be back on the Wye, shame we struggled so much.

River a little low but in great condition, fish rising early on, fantastic stretch of river. Kayaks from Surrey University were asked to to leave the river as they had not checked river levels that were way to low. 2 Grayling and 8 OWBT
(WUF Note: the Kayaks did actually leave the river)

Another new beat for us and no problems with directions and where to park which were clearly marked and easy to find. A beautiful stretch of water and we shared the field with some timid grazing sheep which is always preferable to cattle.
Despite the river being in reasonable shape the fishing was slow but compensated by just being on the bank and enjoying the spectacular sight of a Jay swooping against the backdrop of the dark trees on the opposite side.
We only managed to catch one trout float fishing in the faster water but the last hour sprung into life on the usual feeder tactics. Some good fish were caught the best of which was a cracking Chub just under 6lb and a Barbel weighing 8lb 4oz. All the fish were immaculate and we thank the owner and the WUF for another memorable day on the Wye.

Despite a forecast of heavy rain in the morning, bright sunshine turned up. Plenty of fish caught in the bottom end of the beat, but as per our last visit, the average size was akin to a sardine.
