The sudden change in the weather did not bring the fish on I'm afraid.

River still low but very little drifting debris to contend with. Fished in the meadow to the far bank to find fish and avoid mid-stream snags using standard pellet and feeder tactics. Bites came at intervals through the afternoon. Fish included a baby barbel and two chublets. Weather was mixed with occasional showers.
Generally a good day, as usual with virtually no canoe traffic. Thanks WUF.

Beat:Pwll y Faedda near Erwood

Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:1

7 x grayling 9-16 inches, 8 x trout 6-14 inches. 11 inches on the Llanstephan gauge, but still that brown, peaty stain in the water. Rain and then cloud. A few willow fies and pale wateries about, but very little seen in the way of rises to naturals. Apart from a couple on a dry Orange Otter, wet flies were doing better than dries today, so wet versions of Yellow Bumble, Grayling Steel Blue and Ted Tag.

Lovely bit of water, Caught all 12 chub and 1 Barbel on the float. Chub ranged from 2lb to 3.5lb. The Barbel was just over a pound. Really enjoyed it on a very picturesque part of the Wye.

The conditions seemed more or less perfect: overcast, quite warm, hardly any wind, a wide variety of flies coming off the water, river perhaps a little low but still plenty of flow. But there was simply nothing happening. We tried everything, all the surefire nymphs and dries, and fished almost all day. But between us we had three splashy and uncommitted rises and two plucks at the nymphs. There was hardly a movement on the surface all day – just the very occasional rise, which was hardly ever repeated. I managed to catch one small trout. All a bit mystifying.
It was still good to be there though. What a beautiful beat.

Same conditions as yesterday on Gofynne but breezy & therefore leaves. Expected less & got it. However I didn't find the beat as user friendly. Parking okay. I walked upstream well over a mile in all, fishing
where I could, but access into the river was generally poor & actually a struggle at times, then fishing up river wondering if I would be able to get out.
A scary prospect if confronted with deep water & an overhanging bank + thick undergrowth.
Waders & carbon fibre rods cost money. A few safe access points to the river would be good & not just for
Salmon fishers of which I am one at the right time of year.
I noted that the owner (in the paperwork) wanted to keep the riverbank in its natural condition as far as
possible & I saw plenty of evidence of that ie. No concession to the fee paying fisherman & in my mind just
an excuse for doing nothing at all as far as I could see. I won't be back.

An afternoon and evening session from 2.00 pm. River low and clear. Cloudy throughout with an hour's steady rain at first. Started with several bites and a couple of small barbel, but three or four fish lost to hook pulls or line cut on rocks. Fishing then went quiet until the last hour and a half when I had a few more fish up to 6.5 lbs. On a beat that has so many swims in a short length I probably should have explored some more water in the quiet afternoon period - but there's always next time!

A day of showers on the Creel but the fish fed well. A managed 10 Barbel to 8lb 12oz plus 4 Chub. Son J had 7 Barbel plus a very good Chub of 4lb 11oz. L bringing up the rear as his favoured angle had 2 Barbel and 2 Chub. Fish came to feeder tactics and of a variety of pellets and boilie baits.
