River low and very few fish rising during the day when hot and sunny. However, pleased to catch a handful on a deer hair emerger during a dour afternoon. It was a different story in the evening when the fish started taking the abundant Mayfly and I had another 9 fish in a short time despite being distracted watching the swans giving a piggy back to their 8 cygnets. An excellent day on a lovely beat.

Lovely beat, river at its summer low, lots of insect life including a mayfly hatch. One 10 inch brown and four lost. I had trouble presenting my mayfly as it was my first time casting such imitations. I will return to beat as it is an easy place to fish when low.

With great regret, I did not fish. Slightly optimistically thought rain was coming in over the weekend and early this week - nothing major came. Level sitting at 7" so cut my losses and saved on the petrol costs at least. Less optimism and more realism needed on future weather predictions.

9 x trout 6-12 inches, Monnow Gosling, mostly around 10-11 inches. A cloudy morning and I fished up as far as Lyonshall Wood, when light rain started. I walked back via Titley Junction which is becoming a sort of railway museum. Super conditioned Arrow trout - I suppose they should be fat by the end of May.

Fishing for salmon today, held no hope of catching a fish. The river was the colour of coffee due to excessive algal bloom, and there were incessant interruptions to fishing due to the passing of canoeists.
Surely, the numbers of canoes should be limited by the licensing of the canoe hire companies The licence fees to go towards the improvement and protection of the river's habitat. I think that I am right in my understanding that the canoe rental companies contribute nothing to the upkeep of the river habitat, yet they must be making significant profit from it.
The quality of the river water in Summer has to be reduced by the current levels of extraction of river water for agriculture which were set in the time before climate change.
I will be back again, in hope and preferably after a good week of heavy rain has flushed through the river .
