Approx 2 ft of water on river and dropping. Little coloured but fining down.
Note that the gate padlock code is correct for both gates but the locks are fiddly and stiff so it takes some patience to open them.

Over the years, at one time or another, I must have fished just about every yard of the Lugg from Eyton up to Presteigne. Prime Grayling water throughout but, if you are looking for the Grayling sweet-spot, look no further than Lyepole. Arrived de bonne heure; to find a very low river (to use Harry Redknapp football-speak, it was down to its bare bones). In spite of the low level, the Grayling were really having it today; with, seemingly, a Grayling hitting the nymph every time the nymph hit the water. Fish from just about every run I fished; usually 2 or 3 fish from the run and, occasionally, 5 or 6 fish from the run. Mostly fish in the 8-10 inch bracket, with a handful at 12 inches plus.
One of those days where I am tempted to sandbag low in terms of what I report but, we are all friends here (are we not?). 3 dozen Grayling it shall be then. All on a tungsten Endrick Spider. Curiously, just a solitary Trout.
Tres bonne.

River high and coloured, though falling. Weather mild but not too bright. Seemed perfect, but despite trying three swims could catch only chub until 7.30 pm when the barbel eventually came on to feed in my right bank swim not far from bridge. Large tackle-robbing snag in swim opposite!

Found myself in the area for work so thought I'd drop into this beat which I'd never fished before. I usually fish the Monnow beats a valley or two over, and I was really surprised at how different this river was - bigger and much faster with plenty of water tumbling over rocks and boulders, a real mountain stream. Saw one or two fish rise in the slower sections and there was a bit of a hatch going on, exactly what was hatching I've no idea though. Caught 4 nice fish around the 10" - 12" size on a small size 16 DHE in the heads of pools and maybe half a dozen tiny wee trout in the faster runs. All in all a lovely few hours.

We had a brilliant day with 13 Barbel and one Chub being taken all on pellet with a feeder. The river was a little high after the recent rains so that probably helped.

One trout caught and returned unharmed. 11 inches long and in good condition. Caught on Ginger Quill size 14 dry. It was seen to be rising several times and took on first offer. No other rising fish seen. River falling from large spate 4 days previously. Some colour in water.

Arrived to find the river carrying some much needed extra water, though it did mean that I couldn't fish swims I had fished on previous visits. Had my first barbel after 30 minutes and then nothing for the next four hours, when I had an eel. Then had three barbel in quick succession, biggest approx seven pounds. Finished off with a chub and packed up about six thirty. All fish taken on halibut pellet hook baits and feeder combination.
The gods must have been smiling upon me when I booked White House, as the day before my visit I attempted to play badminton for the first time in many years and sustained an injury to my Achilles. I was able to park close to my chosen swim and very slowly get my gear down to the river's edge bit by bit. I'm sure this would not have been possible on a number of other venues! A hospital visit today (27/08)has established that I have possibly ruptured my Achilles and am now sitting typing this with a cast on my left leg.
(WUF: Wishing you a speedy recovery)
