Had fun day on Lower Longtown thanks. River in nice clean condition. Saw a few shadows in the pool near to where the rivers meet but I could not tempt them. Plenty of little fish rising. I tried several types of fly with no return, thanks for a lovely day.

Very slow day, with only one baby chub caught. Fished both ends of the stretch. The slowest day I have experienced on the Wye in six years. The main theories for the slow fishing are either the fish being turned off by the flood water / waiting to spawn or not being there to catch. I do not know the answer at this stage, but will persevere.

Overcast but fairly bright day. Fished from about 11:00am until 17:00. Little moving, one trout caught to a gold beaded nymph at Glaslyn Pool just above the exit riffle.

Good fish lost in Bridge Pool and one swirl 15min later. Water with some colour but cleared in pm, persistant rain and lack of stamina drove me off the river in early afternoon. Thank you.

First time at this stretch. Water quiet high and coloured. The flow was pushing hard. Cloudy weather. Not a great start of the season for me but it was a privilege to be there. A very enjoyable day fishing on a peaceful part of the Wye.

Fished the top 1/4 of the gorge, and 1/4 mike up from Pontsarn. Despite it looking like the dishonest place on earth, I think that upstream of Pontsarn may well fish better than the gorge, partly due to the Fact that it's really tricky to get into a casting spot without spooking the fish.
That said, took three fingerlings to a small gold head, all fished with a longish leader to avoid spooking. Great morning session, there are plenty of fish there to be had.
I went on the Merthyr Tydfil angling association Facebook page to ask about patterns and spots and I have to say that they were amazing - Gavin Jehu (club secretary), Mostyn Reynolds, Ceri Thomas and Anthony Rees were all hugely helpful. Certainly one of the friendliest clubs I've encountered.
