Cold blustery day. Good clear water. 14 trout between 11" and 15", mostly on nymph. Occasional LDO hatching only. What a pity there is so much black plastic from haylage wrap everywhere, especially here in the country which invented the plastic bag tax.

A colder day than expected, not much in the way of fly life seen and just a couple of rises all day. 3 grayling and 2 trout caught on a gold head PTN fishing New Zealand style. My fist time on the stretch of river and will definitely be back later in the season when the fish will hopefully be looking up!

No fish caught, but a nice stretch of wild river to spend an afternoon on. A new-looking fence has been put up at the end of the field above the weir, which looked too tricky to cross without risk of damaging the fence or your tackle. This means the beat cannot be fished from start to finish in one go. Both parking points need to be used, and the beat divided into two sections.

Despite a very cold cloudy day, and rivers generally, still very much in flood I ventured to Hindwell in the hope that this section may have falling water levels and a degree of clearing water. Although the water was still high it was wade able in places and gaining in clarity. I saw no fish rises but worked my way up from the lower end. Eventually, on a pheasant tail nymph I felt that welcomed take. It was a brownie of about 12 inches who gave a really fearsome account of itself on my light tackle but eventually throwing the hook when at my feet!
The upper section of the beat is almost inaccessible, due to a combination of overgrowth & barbed wire fencing, which I found disappointing. Very pretty beat generally but access will be even more challenging as growth builds up on the bankside trees.

It was quite early in the season, fishing was hard, river running heavy. We were using pheasant tail and hairs ear bead nymphs down deep but to no avail. It was though a beautiful spot and we had a great day and hey this is fishing and why we do it. Thanks for your hard work WUF for making this type of water available to us.
Kind regards
