Fished from 11.30am to 6.15pm. Water temp 5.5c, air temp 15c, bright sunny day, wind SW, just a tinge of colour in the water. All fish taken on a hair-rig bunch of red maggots with halibut feeder from The Barr & Froth Hole.
Only got to fish the field adjacent to the playing field. Will have to explore the field beyond the woods next time. What a start to the weekend, onto Sugwas Court tomorrow.

Not our usual success apparently the river had some snow melt.... 1 barbel only. The salmon anglers had a 15 pound sea liced salmon opposite very friendly bunch! We enjoyed our day thanks...

Extremely slow fishing. One rod maggots, two chub, one rod pellet, one chub. Lost a barbel late on. River was in fine trim but a little concerned there were no small dace?
Fished Kerne Bridge next day was even slower. So all told disappointing two days fishing.

2 x trout 10 - 15 inches, Waterhen Bloa. Another rather cold day, certainly colder than the weatherman promised. Nothing at all until about 12.30 when a very sparse hatch of large dark olives began. I think I had counted only a dozen or so by 2.30pm when they stopped. One rising fish seen, in a place I couldn't reach. And just three takes all through the same period on spiders. Two resulted in fish. And the third came viciously out of the blue while I was wool-gathering, looking around and thinking what an attractive estate Penpont is...and broke the leader, I am afraid to say. It's been a while since I fished Penpont early season, which tends to leave me feeling I have earned the sort of comments which used to appear on school reports. You know - "could do better", "need to try harder" etc. I might have done better with nymphs, but it's somehow more attractive to try to follow the hatch. An interesting day and no doubt things will get easier as the water warms.

Managed another couple of hours on the upper taff/MTAA waters today. Did not get onto the water til gone 14:00 but there was a good couple of ldo' and brook dunns/March browns on the water with a couple of fish feeding in a couple of runs despite it being late in the day for so early on in the season. Managed a dozen fish up to 2 1/2lb on nymphs and dry.

Fished the bottom end of the beat from 8am-6pm. Overnight temp of -2 wasn't great and the river was pushing through (1.1m) and running clear, the water felt very cold! We fished the float during the morning but bites where few and far between with only one trout around 1.5lb. We them moved over to the feeder in the afternoon (pellet & maggots) and only had the two bites, a barbel around 6.5lb and a chub of 2.5lb. All in all a tough day. On reflection fishing the slower deeper water further up on the beat might have been more productive.

A frost during the night I suspect knocked back any real chance of getting a late season barbel or two. The chub also seemed to be somewhat elusive although we managed to get a small 2 pounder on the bank. Fished feeder and pellet which, on reflection, was probably the wrong approach in the conditions. River had a decent flow but fairly clear. This stretch is not prolific, but in the right conditions will probably provide some good sport. Will try again next season.
