Despite a steady trickle of olives hatching all day; the feeding activity was sub-surface. All fish caught on beaded pheasant tail nymphs fished upstream into the deeper, faster runs.
This is a lovely stretch but not for those who don't like casting into the south-westerly wind; which always accompanies my visits here.
The road works to the beat have now been completed.

With a gusting downstream wind all day I spent a lot of time sitting on the bank disentangling myself, the river bank & my line. Arrived at about 10am with a wall to wall Grammon hatch, with the beasties crawling all over me as I frantically tried to tie on a suitable match; Needless to say it was nearly all but over by the time I made the first cast but managed 2 fish before all went dead. Persisted with the dry fly trying to induce a rise but in the end resorted to a weighted nymph to tempt a few more fish from the 'riffly' water.
Thank you W&U for another day far from the madding crowd.

Very tough day, very windy and downstream too! Sporadic hatches of LDO and March browns. Most fish very caught using nymphs, as the emergers and duns did not stick on the surface for long.

Shared this stunning beat with a young J S from Bath who had a rather more successful day than me with his nymphs. With my weighted nymph collection sitting on the table 180 miles away, I was left to fish the tails with an Elk hair caddis. Picked off four fish from ten to fourteen inches during the bursts of sunshine and a 30 min hatch at 12.30. The continual down stream breeze strenghthend to more gusty conditions that took the enjoyment and ability to present a fly away for the day. All fish safely returned as was I to the Red Lion in Llangynydr. A good day.

A very warm day for the time of year, with the water running at 12 degrees C at 6:30am. Mixture of fly and spinning: varied on water depth.
The only fish seen were 1. a trout being chased by a pike; 2. a very decent sized trout in the margins upstream of the croy outside the fishing hut. No fish caught, but a very enjoyable day nonetheless.

Guiding the Young family. 6 x trout 12-14 inches on various dry March Brown patterns. Fished between 10 and 1, and saw a trickle hatch of march browns coming off every few minutes, along with a few grannom.
