Inspite of having fished here 4 times this year already and in past seasons, I still stupidly managed to fall foul of the am/pm beat swap, so with much embarrassment I made/make huge apologies to the Llanstephan rods. After making the original booking, I had to rearrange for the following day and then mistakenly made the "obvious" beat swap in my mind - instead of checking the details more keenly for the 4th Sunday in the month! Note to self and perhaps other beware, always check the details!
Lovely fly water at 1ft 4" but once again sadly I could not find a Salmon. Plenty of Shad coming to a fly, Trout and a 7" Grayling. The three casts for the day with the spinning rod were in Llangoed pool and resulted in a Pike.
Many thanks to WUF, "Wye not stop cafe" and all.

Reports suggested the brook had been fishing reasonably well before my visit, and I found it quite low and clear. There was little sign of fly life and only a very few rises. I missed a couple of half hearted takes to dry fly and had nothing to wet. Very disappointing day.

Fished the upper Taff from the RSPCA centre up towards Merthyr Town. Lots of midge, ldo's and brook dunns on the water with fish feeding on the surface in every pool. The river looks in great shape since last weeks flood with hardly any algy on the rocks. Managed to catch a 21 inch, 19 inch fish and around two dozen fish up to 1lb on dries and nymph's.

Strong cold wind, river very clear. Large numbers of sedges and gnats, plus a few mayfly and olives. Fish rising but very reluctant to take a surface fly. Six trout caught by Czech nymph method; one of 2.25lbs, one of 2lbs, two of 1lb and two smaller. Hats off to the Foundation for putting in several substantial sets of steps, making life much easier. Anyone visiting for the first time, look for signs of trampled grass, to find these as they are becoming a little hidden by grass etc, but are located, near heads and tails of pools.
