Weather included: Sunshine, wind, cloudy, showers and heavy rain. We saw six good sized trout rises. We fished from bank side and in the water, tried several classic trout flies, wet and dry fishing upstream and down as appropriate but were unsuccessful.
We found it very difficult to get to the water above the ford due to very thick growth and Himalayan balsam clogging up the too few stiles and banks. Difficult too because once in the water, progress upstream was nigh impossible due to fallen trees which had not been cleared at all since last winter's high waters. Downstream from the weir, very good access achieved. Nevertheless, a very good day and would return to Eyton Beat.

Fished from 8am to 12pm.
The river had cleared after carrying some colour a few days prior and there was a stiff breeze but conditions looked good.
Being the first time I had fished this section I searched just about every water type. But in the end all the trout were taken from creases or pocket water and all the grayling came from evenly paced water just after the mouths of pools.
Trout fell to either a red-tag or PTN, grayling to either the PTN or GRHE.
The trout were all of the smaller size, 6-8 inches, the best grayling a slim 12 inches.
A nice diverse bit of water. I shall be back now I know what to expect.

Water a perfect height at 10" but unfortunately quite dirty with heavy particulates that probably put the fish down.
Access has been improved on this beat with a number of cut paths down to the waters edge.

I'm not a great flyfisher but this was the hardest fishing I have done. It was much colder than of late and I had forgotten my waders, so I was in wading boots and waterproof trousers - cold!!
The stream is small with not a lot of water but some tricky wading and deep gully's that are not always obvious. I dare say I spooked a lot of fish. I'm sure there are good fish to be had in these gully's but the dense growth makes for very difficult casting (more flicks really). I got hung up on many occasions.
There was a good hatch in the afternoon, but I saw only a couple of rises from tiddlers.
If that all sounds negative, it isn't! I felt I was learning a lot on a lovely little stream and despite the cold, I had to be dragged off the water at the end.
I managed to hook, but not land a small trout (long distance release).
This was my first WUF expedition but it will not be my last! Well done to all at WUF.
