Following a previous rod's comments posted about the lack of access to the pools at Goodrich some good work has been done and access to Vanstone, The Corner Tree, Maddox, Windmill, The Dog Hole and Gabions is now very good. However, Cottage, The V, Stones and Upper & Lower Lines are completely unfishable because you can't get to them! Beat owners need to improve access to their water. The situation was the same when I fished Abernant a few weeks ago. Only 1 pool was easily accessible.
As well as all the good work done by the WUF and other organisations to improve the river, beat owners need to play their part as well.

WUF note - All pools except the Cottage and the V are now accessible following beat work carried earlier this week. There is more beat maintenance planned in the near future.

We had a lovely day on a very nice water. Conditions looked perfect. River not high and carrying a little bit of colour. Between us we had 4 barbel up to 7lb 12 oz and 15 chub ranging from very small to a biggest of 3.5lbs. All fish were taken on pellet feeder tactics.
There are a lot of chub on this stretch. Best times were early morning and late evening, especially for the chub.

Interesting day resulting in 5 barbel to 8lb 15oz and 8 chub, all caught on pellets. Initial impression is the fish are distributed throughout the stretch, as above results came from a number of different swims.

Blanked. Had plenty of offers on halibut pellets/boilies but could only attract pike on them. Was bitten off at least six times even after moving swims three times. As only took barbel tackle and bait could not change tactics! This stretch of river is very attractive and the swims reasonably accessible considering the bank height, however it is a tackle graveyard, with major snags everywhere I tried.

All chub falling to rolled meat, nothing was interested in static baits.

Nice stretch of river, my main grumble would be lack of swims in the mid section. I wouldn't recommend this beat to older or solitary angler due to the steep banks. Lots of anglers on the opposite bank but then it was the first day of the season. Not sure if the beat is worth £45 per rod. Pellet feeder worked best, moved every hour or so and caught the barbel by the foot bridge.

Water pump was very noisy and irritating, on for seven hours a day. Only time for fishing was early morning, or evening.

Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Salmon

A good days fly fishing but only one salmon seen in The Rectory travelling through. Seven shad to 3.5lbs caught throughout the day on a size 10 Flamethrower that gave some good sport.
The condition of the banks by the Rectory and Neck are completely overgrown so that you cannot see the pot holes and caused many stumbles! The Rectory beat is described as a premier beat but the condition of this part of the banks would put it into the 4th division. Great shame as it is a lovely beat.

Crazy days fishing.
Lost 18 feeders on snags but found fish in fast water.
Met Don. What a lovely man and very helpful.
Bottom peg produced most. Had two chub on chips whist having takeaway fish and chips!
