I wanted to fit in a trip to the Wye before the cold weather set in but apart from the pleasure of being on the river, there isn't much to report. The water looked good and I fished six hours with various baits but the fish refused to respond. A frost the previous night seems to have killed things off and I blanked. Happy Christmas to all at WUF and thanks for some excellent fishing during 2013.

Fished the first 2 pegs on the right bank, used a wide range of baits (from maggots to pellets). Only caught 2 chub on maggots. River was low and clear.

How often does it happen that you catch a decent fish in the first few casts and think that you are in for a good day!
Third cast, a nice 13 inch Lugg Grayling then had to wait another hour and a half before the next fish which was much smaller.
Ended the day with 3 Grayling, two being very small, all taken in faster water on a pink shrimp. I couldn't find the pods of fish. A big Otter seen fishing just below the top wier. A lovely clear, and crisp day on the Lugg, river clear but running quite fast.

Well I thought I had chosen the venue well, cracking beat to look at! Fished nymph the few hours I was there to no success whatsoever. Huge amount of fly life on the water but nothing coming up at all even in the shallow pools. Total blank I'm afraid.

Pike fishing with dead-baits, 1 pike hooked and lost at the net, approx 8lbs and 2 runs dropped, maybe from the same fish. River condition clear, level good. Thank you Adam Fisher for our chat and it was good to meet you. Thanks also to WUF staff and the easy booking in system.

1 x grayling 13 inches, 7 x out of season trout 8-12 inches, leaded wet flies and bugs. We struggled to find the grayling I'm afraid, although what looked like post-spawning trout were very much in evidence. Nothing really wrong with the water or conditions. One coloured salmon showing.

A lovely day, fished from 9.30 a.m. until 3.30 p.m. Cloudy, warm and still. River gin clear at 0.42m on the Cilmery guage. So we started full of expectation! However, we only managed to catch one OS trout of about 1.25lb and a grayling of about 14" on bugs, and two grayling (14 and 17") on a small dark olive Ducks Dun while a few fish rose to a sprinkle of hatching olives between 1 and 2 p.m. Saw five salmon (8-10lb?) and one very healthy looking mink. A perplexing day - where were the ladies?
