River 0.4 and gin clear. Temp 30c at 7pm and still 24c at 10pm. John and I opted for trout fishing spider partridge and orange and small greenwells nymph subsurface in Woodstream and Top Run resulting in 11 for me and 5 for John from par to 12 oz. Good sport! All returned.
Switched to dry wulff size 14 at 9.30pm and had another 4 but some large trout showed in the streamy water below the rock but unable to tempt any of these. Suspect they had moved up from the pool late on. John had one more in tail of Chine pool.

Fished the top of the beat in the afternoon in the heat of a scorching day and received not a single bite for my efforts. Moved downstream and fished the beach in the evening with the desired effect. Lots of interest from the resident barbel and two 5 pounders landed plus an eel. The former on halibut pellets and the latter on a piece of luncheon meat. A wonderful beat, great vehicle access and a very friendly farmer. Banks are very steep at the top end but the lower end is pretty easy going, I even managed to get a chair out. Many thanks to WUF.

Only one of us ended up fishing due to heat! Made the very long journey on foot from youth hostel car park - needs stressing that the track to carpark is extremely narrow, very steep - glad I had the truck! Disappointed by the lack of available swims. I don't mind a bit of wild stuff but in 30deg heat I'm not going to start wading through 6ft nettles in my shorts! Eventually found a spot and managed a couple of barbel once the heat had died down a bit - one just nudging 10lb which I was very pleased with and made the long hike back worth it. River low and warm and could do with a flush through in next couple of weeks.

Great day's fishing on this lovely stretch even though it was getting on for 30c! All fish caught on pellets or corn on the float or feeder set up. Must have lost another 6 barbel throughout the day but still very happy to come away with 17! Really nice to meet Don too, lovely chap who is very helpful and knowledgeable!

A roasting hot day so sat under the shade on the left hand bank a couple of swims down from the bridge. Still managed to bag a couple of Chub and three Barbel on pellets. A few people about so would suggest fish early and/or late.

First of 4 days on this stretch, very bright and hot, river low, A, J and K fished upstream half of fishery. A managed a Barbel of 5lbs late in the day, J had 2 smallish Chub and K blanked from the upstream end swim.
16th July - second day, L stayed in bed, same conditions, S decided to have a day in the pacier water and caught numerous small Chublets and Dace on the stick float with corn or small banded pellet, P blanked.
17th July - third day, same conditions, K caught 2 Barbel to 8lbs and a small Chub, A had 3 small Chub and J managed a late Barbel of 7lbs 8oz. Fish caught mainly on Essex baits barrel boilies.
18th July - day four, even hotter today, L walked downstream to the fast water but blanked and P had a Barbel of 7lbs 13oz and a 3lb Chub on meat in the first swim before the gate.
All in all this stretch fished hard, the weather certainly didn't help but also the major construction works being undertaken at this venue may have had an effect.

We arrived at the fishery around 6.30 am and fished for barbel with pellet and feeder in the wooded section, despite Don The bailiffs excellent advice, we caught just one chub between us and packed up around midday. To be fair the river was very low and the weather had been stinking hot for the past week, not the ideal conditions for barbel. The Wye and Usk Foundations service was excellent with good directions to the fishery, however you need to be a mountain goat to get to the river in the wooded section.

Fished the morning only, due to high temps, never seen the river so low! The fish were feeding well in the faster, weedier glides. The barbel were all around 6lbs, best chub was 3lbs with a couple around the 1lb mark.
