Arrived late morning, weather fantastic, river conditions good. Plenty of fish rising and a good fly hatch. Both fly fishing, using mayfly, various others tried but the mayfly in June worked best! 5 landed, largest 14 inches, all returned. All in all a very good day to be on the river. Many thanks to the ladies in the office, as always extremely helpful.

River flow seemed to increase dramatically after 10am .Lots of canoes (60+) but all politely paddled. Fish also politely declined my invitation.

A still, warm and rather cloudy day with river conditions and fly life very like when I fished Dolgau last Friday, and with much the same result! The fly fishing "dog days" are with us for sure. Very few upwings apart from some pale wateries; some sedges and, later in the day, yellow sally stonefly - so nothing much to stimulate fish to get off their backsides and get up in the water! A few small trout sipped off and on during the day, on what, I am not sure. Fished with various surface/emerger and terrestrial patterns, duo, spiders and nymphs. Had just seven trout including two nice 14" fish and one 12" grayling on a couple of small hare's ear and olive emergers. A few tugs and dropped fish on the lift on the spiders and nymph - small fish I suspect. It's tough now for sure. Maybe I missed the best of the day's fishing by going home at 5.30p.m. to watch a recording of the Lions match earlier in the day?!

We caught more than our fair share! Loads of barbel, numerous fish over 8lb and 3 over 9lb, biggest 9lb 6oz. Plenty of chub, biggest about 4lb. Left earlier than planned because we thought we better leave a few for next time! A brilliant day!

We went for the evening rise but unfortunately the temperature dropped quickly after a perfectly clear day and the hatch and rise were brief. A few fish were showing but the action was not what the day had promised and we finished the evening with just a couple of fish. The river level was 6in on the Brecon cam, the water was gin clear, and the scenery spectacular. Next time...
