I caught 4 trout, fly fishing, using largely diawl bach and a white dry fly. Fish were returned except one, which swam under a rock and got tangled up. By the time I got it undone, it was barely breathing. I tried to do that thing where you revive it by pushing it back and forth through the water, but after a few minutes it didn't come back.
My first fish caught in 50 hours of fishing in wales (mostly in winter though), it was one of the most fun days I've ever fished! I was starting to think there weren't any fish...
Thank you Wye Usk foundation

Fish taken on nymph. Despite a warm day, not much surface action!

Great day! sun was out and the river looking great. All fish taken from the surface on dry's. Lots of mayfly still about. Most fish in the 15" range. Farmer in field just before the Bridge Inn campsite (on the pub bank) was not pleased to see me on his land! Thank you W&U.

Bright clear day, crystal clear water, no wind. A few midge hatches but nothing else. Hooked two but did not get them to the net.

The river was not as good as I expected. I didn't like it I'm sorry. 2 fish caught and released, but very hard to find. Downstream was a little better. In general, I didn't like this beat.

Total catch: 6 WBT 6-12" and 1 surprise sea trout smolt 7".
Good hatch of Mayfly and olives during the day, but most action was in the evening when there was a terrific Mayfly spinner fall on one of the upper pools.
This is a long beat, but you don't need to venture more than halfway down to find great fishing. The fish are pretty spooky, and generally you only get one chance – so cast carefully!
Will definitely be back.

A truly stunning area and piece of water – was like being in Slovenia in a couple of places. Horrible conditions but we had some great sport. Actually, Dolgau outfished Craig Llyn by a long shot and we saw some huge fish cruising around. You had to be ultra-stealthy, but when you were you could really get them nearly every time. Pool just above the bridge fished really well and we had 8 out of that one alone; 5 browns, 3 grayling. Biggest grayling would have been just under 50cm! The biggest trout wasn’t far off that too.
We picked up some nice fish in almost every pool with a nice mix of trout and grayling. No hatches to speak of, sadly, but we did get some nice fish on the dries with the rest being on small nymphs fished on long and fine leaders.
