3 lovely spotty fish caught on dry Greenwells. Fished 3pm - 7pm and didn't do the beat justice. Only picked out the likely looking spots and didn't do much prospecting. Easy access into river.

A day to remember! River showing a bit of colour but at a perfect level and there was an abundance of fly life - Danica, Yellow Mays, Large Brook Duns, Olive Uprights and swarms of small midges. Only a few rising fish in the morning but by noon things began moving off the top. A majority of the fish were 30+ cms and in fine condition. We failed to fish the complete beat and did not wait to see the fall of spinners. We also noticed significant colouring of the river in upper reaches as if there had been some significant rainfall or some form of disturbance upstream and the owner of Llyn Du was not happy to see us despite the fact we were fishing the opposite bank. Future visitors be aware -and do not walk into their garden.

Between 2 of us, 7 trout and 1 small chub caught. Many, many more risen but missed. Was bordering on the ridiculous. The conditions were pretty well perfect. The river was pristine. My reactions were not.

A beautiful warm day with a reasonable amount of cloud cover at times. Insect life was much more abundant than last week, with more Mayfly hatching than before, but still not a great quantity, plenty of Olives. The river was fairly cold and coloured and the amount of rising fish limited, maybe saw 6 rising fish all day. Managed to catch a couple of 12 inch fish on a size 14 Wulff, great fighters for their size.

Went with my son, great day, sunny, river running clear, flies hatching but fish must have been on a day trip to Bristol. I did see one about 4 inches long leap out of the water but there was no sign of any other activity anywhere on the beat. Good lunch at the Stag helped the day along. Looks a nice stretch of water, will try it again sometime.

It was wonderful to have a chance to fish Gromain again after a gap of several years! The water had dropped a little quicker than hoped from a recent small spate but was ok at 1ft 2". Started 5.30am with size 10 red Ally's at the head of the Spring pool, spent too much time messing about in the gutters and eddies behind rocks at the top with currents and fly going in all directions! - the tail end fished nicely but annoyingly the sun was on the water by the time I got to the tail 50 yards or so, perhaps better to focus here first next time in these conditions. Fished on through the Cottage and waded out successfully to fish the big rock and all fished really well. Drove to Boughrood and bought a pastie and choc fudge cake in the shop - becoming an annual treat when fishing upper Wye! Went to Bachawy pool and fished through in very hot and bright conditions. Had a snooze for 2 hrs and did some casting practice, still with a size 10 Ally's towards the opposite boards and had the first shad. Went off to Builth and found the excellent Cosy Corner tea rooms - do go!! Returned for an evening session from 6pm. Fished Heirag and caught another Shad, moved up to Spring pool and another shad. Cottage and the big rock again for nothing and feeling the pressure of a blank had a final cast through the Heirag and two more shad and a decent trout took a size 8 Usk Grub. No luck with the Salmon caught or seen but wonderful day out. Many thanks WUF.
