Beat:Pwll y Faedda near Erwood
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
6 x trout 8-12 inches, 3 x out of season grayling 8-13 inches, Deer's Hair Emerger. A dry fly morning under grey clouds, warm rain drizzling off and on. The rain has raised the river a couple of inches and put a little colour into it. A few olives trickling off, but no spectacular hatch.

Drizzle and cool, not promising but the river did yield 4 WBT (6 - 9inches - all safely returned) to deep gold head nymph. An interesting new beat and a lot of river for your money. I did see one swallow. Looking forward to returning when the fish are rising.

Eleven trout, 10-16 inches, at least the same again on/off long range releases. Down stream wet fly. River coloured in the morning but clean by 1pm. Very little fly life or rising fish. Last fished this water about 30 years ago - the river has changed very little! Discovered the odd boulder mentioned in the beat description but failed to make a detour - had a 'dunk in the drink'- luckily just as I was about to finish for the day. A good Spring day's fishing.

First time Fly fishing and hooked something late afternoon but failed to recover. This is a perfect location for me and looking forward to my next return. Thanks to the advice to another fisherman, unfortunately I didn't get his name.

A great beat just a bit to much water running (not helped by the showers). Fished a day and a half. Two salmon moved at Vanstone, 1 x 3/4lb brownie on a BT Rapala from the middle of Maddox and a 6lb pike from The V on a Red Flying C.

Fished the beat for two days. River rising but not too coloured after heavy rain and some thunder on the monday night. No salmon caught but one seen jumping in Vanstone. Mainly spinning with a little time spent fly fishing. One pike of around 6lb and a brownie around 1.5lb caught. Really liked the beat, especially the tail end of Windmill and Maddox. Stayed at the Hostelrie not far from the beat and it was fantastic. Comfy beds, good local ales and splendid food. Will be back again when the wives allow it!

A beautiful beat and what should have been an ideal day. The weather conditions were good and there is plenty of water which you can access. A few flies were coming off but there was no sign of a rise. A blank day for me.

Area:Severn
Beat:Bideford Brook
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
12 x trout 6-8 inches, plus many more smaller parr, on a small Rusty Klinkhammer. A small amount of rain during the night was enough to put a certain amount of colour into the water, although this cleared as the morning went on. A few rises seen, but plenty of trout, mostly smaller fish in the runs at the heads of pools, were generally prepared to be enticed up, so I didn't use the nymph. A very pleasant way to kill a few hours. It's worth noting that this stream, which is barely above sea level, is reliably an early starter although, as it's a Severn tributary, it doesn't actually open until 18th March.

River a little coloured from rain yesterday. Sunny morning, clouding over in the afternoon, warm. A few grannom hatching, but no surface activity; we saw only two fish rise. We caught nine trout, from half a pound to about one and a quarter pounds, and one small grayling, all on heavy nymphs in deep but fast water.
