Perfect day. First time on this beat for both of us with the river clear and carrying a little extra level. DW fished fly in the morning and after a brief hatch of LDO's caught 2 Grayling 12" and 1 18" fish (2.5lbs) on dry sedge pattern. After lunch both rods trotted maggots with 70+ Grayling, 12 OSBT, 2 large Chub. All Grayling 10"/18" and all fish returned safely. We will be back.

Quite a tough day really with a strong downstream wind which resulted in the expected heavy leaf fall. Level still a little high but the clarity were fine and it was pretty nippy.
Concentrated away from the bedrock/gutter areas as the wading was challenging but did find some grayling in the gravelled areas. There was a flurry of LDO's around lunch time which brought some fish up including one or two healthy specimens. Total for the day 7 Grayling and one WBT. Sad to say there were Goosanders on the beat which we chased off but I caught one grayling with a fresh wound across the back. Goodness knows what they had eaten already.
Nice to see that the beat is available once again. The owner of Llanfechan house is asking anglers to put details of their catches in a diary that they keep.

One wbt 14 inches long, half a dozen or so fingerlings and probably the smallest fish I've ever caught on a fly. It wasnt much bigger than the fly! And 2 lost grayling at the net. They both looked good fish. Really lovely beat if a little difficult to access esecially the top half as theres a barbed wire fence runnuing the lenght of the river. Extreme care needed if in waders! It's a real shame this beat isn't available in the summer as this I'm sure would give cracking trout sport. Try and make it available please WandU!

Fishing over two days with river up just under four feet and water temperature at about 8 degrees C. Three barbel 6.8ozs,5.4ozs, and 6lb. and lost one. Day two only one barbel 7lb 6ozs. Tried to find the fish but they were reluctant to feed if I did happen to put a bait in front of them. I tried different baits but only halibut pellets scored.
Many thanks to the dedicated, knowledgeable and pleasant keeper Colin Richardson who was a fund of information in our long chat. Will try to get back to the river next summer when the water is hopefully running at normal levels so that I can study the topography of the river bed.

Nothing caught, no takes and tried differing methods. No sign of any fish. River running pretty fast with some very deep pools. Lots of leaves falling onto the water too.
Impossible to fish the whole stretch as you couldn't wade upstream due to the depth in many places. (Not sure where all the 'ladies' were hanging out)! High river banks and difficult access meant it was impossible to get down to the water in most places so, enough with the excuses I fished for 4 hours, it's a lovely spot and I will try again when the conditions are more favourable.

11 x grayling 10-17 inches, 2 x out of season trout 6-9 inches, trotting. Very high water during the morning - it actually rose overnight although there was no rain, which made me wonder about snow melt in the upper catchment - so difficult fishing initially. However the situation became better as the day went on, particularly in the hour before dark. Otherwise there was a very brief Large Dark Olive catch around 1.00 in the afternoon, and a few fish were rising. I had a chat with a gentleman from London who was fishing the same beat who took advantage of the rise and got a couple with the dry fly, I understand.

The river was in fine winter condition so no excuse for having a blank but I did. Tried all the things that have worked in the past but not today. Lots of knocks but that was it. It was a very bright day with a slight frost the night before - perhaps that was the reason for the dry net. Thanks as always to w u f for giving us the chance to fish great beats like this and taking my booking at such notice.
