Upper am - 50 meters downstream from Bachawy, small browns were topping freely so that is were I started. I had seven small Browns 6" to 8" all taken on an Emerger based on a Willow fly pattern then changed to a Caddis Emerger and finally a Caddis Pup. The latter accounted for 4 small but worthy Grayling, one approx just under a pound. A chance meeting with a staff member I think it was Seth, made me change my plans for the afternoon and I crossed the river and fished the area he had explained to me. On this advice I connected with 4 beautiful Browns between 3pm and 5pm, all taken on the Caddis Emerger just under the surface, well in the film. 5.20pm to 7pm was spent on the Nymph Caddis Pupa where 7 small Grayling and three small browns were taken. Cracking day.
NO Fish were taken but each one caught released and remembered, for the sport they gave me.
I love Gromain, so many differing pieces of river in one spot. Hard work yes but thoroughly enjoyable.
Thanks to all Wye and Usk staff and Dr Stephen for the work which goes into keeping Gromain special, plus the tremendous hard work which goes into keeping the Wye and Usk Foundation very special.

Enjoyable if not tiring day on an exellent venue. Caught plenty of roach, rudd and perch on the float. The carp outwitted me though, I lost three decent size fish off the surface in the evening.
Many thanks again to the WUF for making such a lovely secluded lake like this available.

Nil return apart from one trout. Maybe the dirty little rise of water overnight upset them or I could losing my touch.

The river was full and carrying a little colour. Nothing showing in the afternoon. Fishing nymphs I had several tugs before bringing one small trout to hand. In the evening the odd fish could be seen feeding in the slack sections. Two trout to a black suspender, the best being about 12”. A tree has fallen across the river about 50 meters downstream of the weir.

Fished from 3pm to 5pm. River flowing strongly with slight cloud. No fish rising and no fly. Two small trout on Black and Peacock Spider. A nice stretch which I have admired for years every time I crossed the bridge. Wouild advise chest waders though to reach all parts. I fished the gamefishers Lugg below Pilleth from 12pm. The Lugg looks at its best with strong flow. Only two small trout though. Can you please get the guage at Ddol Farm fixed soon. It is invaluable for getting river level before setting out from Worcester. Also where have all the grayling gone in the Wye at Rhayader only caaught 1 this season? Also where is the new stretch on the upper Wye? Sorry to ask so many questions!

WUF note - The new main river beat Craig Llyn is a few hundred yards below Llanwrthyl Bridge. Beat information will be available later today 24th Aug via email by request.

Nothing moved or seen apart from a small brown trout, despite the river looking really good. Fished down through with the fly a couple of times before the boats started. After lunch I took 9 barbel to 8lb from the bottom pool in quick succession so all was not lost.

Great days fishing again. The river was low and clear which was a surprise. Caught throughout the day on pellet. The rain fell very heavily and the banks were treacherous in places. In one swim it was so bad it was impossible to fish without a risk of falling in. The barbel were feeding really well however it was much too dangerous. In total 11 barbel were caught to 7lbs 6oz and 5 chub to 4lbs 10oz. There is a definite pattern to feeding at the moment. But I'm sure this will change. Looking forward to fishing this lovely stretch again on Monday and Thurs next week. No problem with canoes, I think us anglers are more upset by them than the fish.

Only fished for 4 hours, had a number of good bites, lost one fish but unfortunately did not catch anything.
River was a good 4ft down from the last time I fished this beat. Strange how everything looks so different.
An enjoyable afternoon however. Thanks WUF.

Indeed a good walk but once on the river access to swims is easy. River looked a few inches up but quite clear. I tried several pegs opposite the gardens but the fishing was quite slow catching 3 barbel and 3 chub between 1pm and 9pm. It seemed quite a lot of hard work for this return but I hope to give it another go.
