Following an unsuccessful day at Ty-Newydd the previous day we thought we'd try the Usk as it looked as though it had dropped a litle overnight. The river was running at 9.4 on the gauge at Chainbridge when we arrived with maybe a foot of visability (although still very red in colour) and dropped to 9 by the end of the day. James landed a 13lb colouring cock fish from the Rock Pool on his fourth cast of the day which put up a good scrap. The fish took a small Park Shrimp tube fished on a floating line. No more action then until around 4pm when I landed a fresh 5lb grilse spinning from just below the bridge from the steps by the gauage where it didn't seem possible to fish the fly. We didn't see any other fish all day but no doubt they were there. A very enjoyable days fishing.

Another great day on this lovely stretch of river. Arrived to find river up and coloured, this dropped throughout the day. Moved a couple of times to find fishable slacks and ended with 11 barbel to just into double figures.

4 x trout 4-8 inches on small Klinkhammer. Blackpool Brook was the only running water I could find which was not in flood after yesterday's rain, and in fact this stream was fairly well coloured. Still, a few little trout were prepared to put up their heads. 8 inches is actually not a bad fish for the Blackpool Brook. And it saved me from gardening or DIY or some other such dubious activity

Riverside at 2pm not sure what and where to set up, river is rising quickly, nowhere looked fish-able on LH bank, only piece of slack on the right bank was already being fished,(seeing this guy pull in a barbel of about 6lbs)swayed me to have ago. I asked him if he was using pellet he said he was and as I was going to fish down stream of him be it 100yds away I felt it would be unfair to use feeder and pellet, so opted for sweetcorn and straight lead and hand fed the swim directly under the large willow 4 small chub and 3 barbel to 6 lbs fished no more than 15ft out bites stopped by 4.30 pm as river rapidly rose by approx 3ft.

Arrived to find the river a little high and coloured but quite fishable. No fish rising but decided to start dry anyway. No takers to an Olive Klink so changed to an Adams Parachute. Caught about ten trout from 5 - 11 inches and missed more mostly up against the banks of the many short pools.
Many thanks to Allyson for replacing the roving vouchers that Royal Mail seem to have lost.

Extremely dissapointing. River 4 feet up and track to river very muddy and slippy. After negotiating the track, river totally unfishable, could not get anywhere near the river, banks too steep.
Will not consider this venue again and will be requesting re-imbursement.
