Stunning stretch and running clear. All muddy water coming into usk from junction pool on this beat. Just one tiddler and not much sign of fish but we were there in the middle of the day so no real surprise.

Fished the lower end of the fishery. 9 barbel & 2 chub - best barbel 8 lbs plus. Lots of bottom weed which ended in one or two losses. Perhaps the most memorable part of the day was during the afternoon when we were caught in the most horrendous storm with lightning bolts hitting all around us. Needless to say we dropped the rods and took cover under our brollies. It didn't seem to put the fish off though!

1 barbel - 9lb, 1 eel on pellet - 3.5lb, 1 chub - 3lb. Very quiet, but river was rising and thunderstorms killed off the fishing.

2 x browns caught and released (and one lost) on a dry daddy, in 20 minutes of fishing. Reckon I could've had a few more if I'd had more time.

Unfortunately mid afternoon they got the forecast right, torrential downpour and washed off the river. The Irfon rose rapidly, coloured within 15 minutes there were logs floating past quiet an impressive rate of rise!
Managed just a couple of trout before being wiped out by the rise. Amazing that on the way home other rivers literally only 10 miles away had not been affected. Ah well try another day.

Made a very early start and was on the river by 5.30. Lost a fish in the Vanstone at 6.30 and missed a good take in the Maddox a bit later. 1st canoes through at 8.15 but didn't start in earnest till gone 10 and were mainly through by 3. Mostly happy to stick to far bank.
Caught a 3lb chub in the Maddox but despite trying everything couldn't get any more offers in the Maddox, Vanstone or Cornertree. Broke for lunch and in the early evening tried to suss out the upstream pools. Still hard to figure out what is what but there is some nice water and some new access points have been cut.
First run through what I think is the Island pool and I caught a 10/11lb cock fish on a size 12 cascade that had probably been in a week or 2. Very strong fish that gave me real battle. Fished on until 9 in hope of another with quite a few fish showing, but wasn't to be. Well worth the early start though.
River was still carrying a bit of colour and was the running at around a foot. The information on the web beat description would seem to be incorrect as it describes the stones in the Maddox as being exposed at 1 ft 7, however yesterday they were submerged.

I thoroughly reccomend this beat.
