What a great end to the season, fished on the Courtfield beat on the 13th and 14th of March. River was a bit low for this time of year, but the barbel didn't seem to mind, I landed 11 barbel to 10lbs 2oz and 4 big chub. This has to be one of the best beats on the W.U.F books, and Don is so helpful. Can't wait to come back!

Our first visit for a while to this consistent beat, and it did not disappoint. We fished the middle part of the beat and caught 11 barbel and a chub between us. The barbel were of a higher average size than in the past, with the best at at 8lb 1oz. The usual feeder fished pellet proved the most productive. The constant sound of curlew in the fields opposite also helped make this a very pleasant day.

Area:Lower Wye

Beat:Middle Hill Court

Fishing:Salmon

No. of Anglers:2

RC caught 2 well mended kelts (9lbs and 12lbs) and one springer to BB of 13lbs. RC lost 5 salmon (one in particular was very large) and one unknown (quite possibly a Pike judging by the fight). BB lost 4 salmon. 1lbs Brown trout tried its luck at taking a large fly. All fish returned strong.

Beat:The Eyton Beat

Fishing:Winter Grayling

Beautiful area, water clear, weather cloudy, 12deg. Excellent parking, clearly signed in the yard. About 500yd walk to the river. We fished only from just above the top weir to just below the footbridge. I netted two grayling, lost two, one (at the net) which I estimated around a pound and a half. That one on a goldhead hares ear, the others on a tungsten nymph. My partner saw a couple of rises, I saw none. Unusually I caught two more than he did. Certainly a place to go again.

Fishing:Trout (River)

Morning fog cleared by 1pm to give way to a beautiful spring day. An encouraging hatch of LD Olives but I have never seen so much insect life totally unmolested by fish. Not one rise spotted and couldn't tempt anything to a nymph however presented. The river looked lovely and was running clear though low for the time of year. I'm sorry to report a blank but I'm sure this beat will come to life soon.

The last time that I fished this beat was June 16th 2011 when access to the river was somewhat limited, so it was nice to see all of the new pegs that have been cut, this contributed to a wonderful days fishing. Roving tactics with stick float, centre pin, castor, maggot & hemp seed resulted in catching many salmon parr, brown trout, grayling, several chub between 3 and 5lb and one barbel of around 6lb.

Nice stretch of river. We caught 3 barbel about 5/6lbs each, 2 on luncheon meat 1 on bread flake. I think the river would fish better with the water at a higher level.

River in beatiful condition fished the Hut Beat in the morning and Colemans in the afternoon. Both contain some breathtakingly beautiful fly water but unfortunately no fish were forthcoming. A couple of fish were seen and a 22lb fresh fish was taken by another rod on the Dukes. Ray was helpful and I will coming back for sure.
