Blank. This was my first time on this attractive beat, although I live not far away. The weather was mild with some afternoon rain. Donny Macer-Wright and Rudy were both extremely helpful about the fishing and the water, and bubbling with enthusiasm about recent salmon results, the best in March from this part of the river in a very long time. I think it's fair to summarise that Courtfield is mostly spinning water (except for a fly section at the bottom end), while the neighbouring Wyebank is nearly all fly water. It didn't work out for me this time, although I had a long, slow pull on the fly at the bottom end which unfortunately didn't connect, and I saw fish move twice. I guess they must still be shuffling through. Altogether a very enjoyable day.

Both anglers blanked. Nice looking stretch of river but no real sign of any fish just yet. Will look to return when the weather improves.

A great day's fishing. Large Dark Olives about from about 11am until 3pm and caught four trout (1/2lb to 1 1/4lb) on a sparkle Dun. The best part for me though was a flush hatch of March Brown that lasted about 15 minutes only (starting at 12.30)which is something I've hoped to see but always missed on my annual early season trips to the Usk over the past 10 or so years. Even though I'm sure the trout were taking dark olives then as well I felt compelled to switched to a march brown to catch my 5th trout. It's a great beat. All trout were returned

No fish caught - despite the bonanza the day before - another case of should have been here yesterday. Had a couple of possible offers in the Stones/Island on the upper portion. A few fish seen moving elsewhere. Some lovely fly water here, I'll certainly be back.

An excellent day at Wyebank & Courtfield. Met with Don at the start of the day who recommended the faster water through Wyebank to begin the day. A beautiful stretch of water, but no action before lunch.
That is if you don’t include not only having my fishing disrupted by several canoes, but by actually being hit by two of them! In both instances they were obviously novice canoeists and took no action other than to continue inexorably towards me, hitting me at some speed once broadside on, with the full force of the current behind them. In both instances I managed to avoid injury, or damage to my equipment, although I suspect this was more by luck than anything else. It is only because I am reasonably young and fit that I was able to avoid a serious accident.
In the afternoon I moved up to Boat Pool, and on Don’s advice I fished down until about 20 yards past the willow and hooked my first Wye Salmon...... a beaufiful silver kelt of about 35inches. Having whooped with joy as she went safely back. I went back for a second run through the pool and got a second fish just before the willow this time, about 32 inches - again safely returned after another great (and very aerial) fight! Fly was a black Snaelda on a sink 5 tip. If Wye kelts put up this kind of scrap I shall look forward to my first encounter with a springer. Beautiful water with lots of fish in it and helpful advice/encouragement.

First time to Goodrich Court and what a day! Conditions were overcast with a cool wind. No sign of movement for the whole day, however we managed to take 2x12lb and 2x8lb fish all fresh runners and in great condition from the "The V" and "The Corner Tree". 1 to the fly and 3 to the spinner. An excellent day and as always great guidance from the WUF team. Thanks.

Good flow of water, no fish seen or rises, quite a chilly day & probably too early in the season, a pleasant blank.

Only managed to fish for a couple of hours but it was enough to explore this lovely beat. There was a steady feed of Large Dark Olives all day but the cold downstream wind kept the main hatch at bay.
I caught 6 brown trout the best fish was a 18 inch cracker that took a olive green Pheasant Tail Nymph fished into the head of one of the pools. Of rising fish I saw only one but it was rising steadily in the slack margins under a tree. Although I tempted it to take an Olive Emerger after a spirited and very acrobatic fight it managed to slip the hook before I netted it. All in all a great beat and an enjoyable days fishing. C. had a great day catching salmon at Courtfield from the boat pool down to top end of ferry pool including 5 well mended, and some exceptional, kelts to 15lbs and a fabulous 40" cock salmon with very high condition factor, super deep and thick girth " a 'pig' as wide as a board" est 27lbs from charts.
