I finally managed to land my first ever Salmon from the Vanstone pool.It was a kelt in poor condition with damaged fins. Weighed seven and a quarter pounds. Returned after a lengthy resus and a salute from me. Took a yellow Flying "C" around 2.00 pm.

A lovely days fishing on The Hut & Coleman Beats. Although fishing for Salmon I caught a small 1lb brown trout on a light brown and silver toby at the Coleman pool - released.

It was a cold, overcast day with only a sporadic hatch in the early afternoon. Two of us fished. I Czech nymphed most of the time for just one grayling and one trout. My friend fished a traditional team of wet flies and had a little more success taking three grayling and a trout. All the grayling were around the pound mark and gave a good account of themselves. All in all, a very enjoyable day in spite of the very cold water and overcast conditions.

Two browns - one just under a pound and one about 3.5 pounds or even more. Both taken on an olive nymph, both returned. A trickle of LDOs about lunch time but no rises and generally hard going.

Excellent lesson with Frank Williams - beautiful sunny day but water still very cold and fishing slow. One ot two dark olives showed after lunch and a few "takes" on small nymphs but not quick enough to connect. Lovely location.

Very cold easterly wind. River in good winter condition, if a little too clear. 2 chub and 1 barbel caught on pellet and feeder approach (not to my rod though!). Looking forward to the new season.

A good day to be a Large Dark Olive! A spectacular hatch but none of them being eaten. Water was very cold and we could only assume that this was what was keeping the fish from feeding. We saw one trout rise once and all manner of tactics failed to catch. It was a beautiful day though and lovely to be on the water again.
