Got a blank on this day. Very low water and only had a couple of hours mid day which made it quite tough. Lovely beat and I'm sure with more time I would have had success as the fish did rise occasionally.

Saw a group of about 7 nice and big Barbel (think its Barbel at least).

Overcast for a lot of the day but still rather warm. Fishing was fairly slow until early evening when I caught 2 barbel and lost one in about quarter of an hour. Final total for the day was 4 barbel caught 2 lost also 2 chub caught. Very nice day although the engines extracting water to irrigate the fields very soon get on your wick, how nice it was when they turned it off for a while!

We caught 2 chub of about 2pounds each, swims were generally low, no evidence of barbel, lots of weed, tried on pellet and meat, the latter being more productive. Lot's of salmon around, next year will fish a little lower. But what a gorgeous place!

3 Brownies up to 13ins caught, two lost and several missed on take. Difficult day - hot, low water levels and fish very fussy. All caught on varous klinkhammers.

Surprised to find myself alone on the beat which I haven't visited before. Weather a bit too warm and sunny. Easy access, lovely stretch and a good few fish with numerous chub ranging from 1/2 lb to 4 lb from various swims and then a purple patch of 3 cracking barbel between 4pm and 5pm which I'm sure would have been more had I stayed later and/or picked swims more sensibly in the morning. Lesson learned - don't get too blinkered on the pellets - ring the changes and 'dead' swims come alive.

Thanks for the recommendation WUF - super efficient as ever.

[I fish this on the Merthyr Tydfil AA ticket, but it's also a WUF water] 2 x wild brown trout, 10 inches and 17 inches, on size 16 Grouse and Claret. Fishing the lee shore at dusk, step and cast, with a light line outfit. The reservoir is low, so it's rather muddy along the shoreline at the moment.

I booked 3 days' coarse fishing on Lower Carrots and Luggsmouth for 28-30 June. You asked for a catch return.

28th June. I shared the beat with P.M. I had 3 barbel and some chub: best barbel about 8lbs. I gave up my swim to Mr M, as I was quite content.

29th June - I had the beat to myself. I caught 9 barbel, mostly between 4-6lbs. I gave the swim a resy mid-way through the day and caught chub, one after another, between 3/4 and 3lbs.

30th June - I went home - another day's fishing would have been an anti-climax!

A few comments: access is no problem, but you should stress that egress is extremely dangerous, with no visibility to the road whatsoever. Commuter hours are worst. It would have been very wet indeed to make it difficult to cross the field, which is level sheep pasture. The downstream field is much the better fishing, having more holding pools.

Will you thank the man who delat with my phone booking please, I thinmk he was called Seth (but I'm getting old, doddery and forgetful). The beat really suited my needs as access to the river was easy all along the stretch. I asked about B&B and he told me to stay at The Bowens (no choice!) and it was most satisfactory.

Thanks to the Wye & Usk Foundation, you do a great job.

WUF note: the exit from the field back onto the busy road is blind and can be dangerous. Please take every caution.

A warm sunny day, a beautiful river and four trout caught ... beats watching England play! Two smaller ones (8-9") came mid morning and two larger fish late afternoon - the first 13", the second 15". Not much hatching; the odd mayfly and olive, but no quantity. A few fish rising, but infrequently and hard to tempt ... at least with my skill level. Tried various patterns through the day, but all fish came to a Greenwells.
