Cold, dull day but sporadic hatches of large dark olive after 1pm, and a few march browns mid-afternoon. One grayling on GRHR gold head, and 3 grayling and 2 trout (to 1.5lb) on Kites Imperial and Klinkhammer.

First Class Coppicing job, very impressive! Easy enough to find, bit of an issue with the access to the upper section,[loose dogs] not confident with this, so left it alone! The lower half looks good, but no fish seen or caught. The Lugg, below beat looks fantastic.

Overcast day but quite a lot of activity for an hour about 2pm when there was a good rise to March browns with some decent fish showing. Caught 2 brown trout around 12 oz on a G&H sedge fished on the top and a third trout of about 1LB on a czech nymph later in the afternoon. All were in good condition and fighting fit. This is a nice water for dry fly and easy wading compared to some of the Wye beats. It would be useful to know where the river is likely to be fordable-as always the bigest fish were under the opposite bank and its a long cast across tricky currents on this water!

2 small grayling and 2 trout, all returned. First trout about half a pound in pretty good condition, second trout about 1.5 lbs still in need of fattening up! Would have been 2 lbs+ in "summer" condition. All on nymphs. Very enjoyable day on excellent fly water under the tuition of Frank Williams.

3 x trout on Waterhen Bloa during a rather sporadic large dark olive hatch after lunch and with a chill east wind blowing: 10 inches, 15 inches and a very handsome wild cock fish of 18 inches. The last-mentioned, at the end, managed to jump through the loop of line I had left trailing below the reel in the current - chaos for a while until the net was brought into play. That will teach me to play fish off the reel!

1 Trout 22ins. returned of course; must be all of 3lb caught in first 10 min upstream on flashback nymph. No sign of any fish after then so left early. River very low clear and colder day than forecast @ 4C air. Left happy.
