Arrived at fishery to a heavy downpour lasting till mid morning. River low and clear to start, then a bit of colour later on. Had a good start in the morning with 5 barbel up until dinner time. An even better session in the afternoon, a bit of roving producing the fish. Chris ended up with 4 barbel (one low double) on his first ever barbel session, me taking 5 barbel to 9lb and losing two very big fish, one from the Rope(pool)and another at the top of the beat. My uncle Brian took 6 barbel to 9lb. My uncle Phil, again on his first barbel session, had 3 barbel, also had a good tustle with a big pike, though the pike won twice to a very annoyed uncle Phil.

Thanks to the rain we had a fantastic session. Thanks again to the Wye and Usk and also Adam Fisher for his great advice.

Blank. Unfortunately the long-trotting strategy didn't work out, and apart from a modest chub which bounced off before netting, all I could contact were minnows. I went off to Sportfish round the corner for some retail therapy.

A lovely day before the storm hit on Sunday. Some chub and one lovely barbel an hour before dusk from the tail of an island. Might have had more, but children had a Halloween party to go to. Such sacrifice is the lot of parenthood.

Brilliant days fishing. Between the two of us we lost count of the small 4-5 inch grayling and trout we caught. One brownie caught at the bottom of the beat was about a pound and a half, plus 3 grayling towards the two pound mark from deep pools at top end of beat. All fish caught on heavy nymphs, no fish were taken. Will be back again soon.

A bit of a slow day, river was pretty low. 3 chub between us and a cracking 8lb 2oz barble (PB) which topped the day off such a nice river to fish will be back very soon to try again!

SW: Had 8 grayling & 1 trout all on a small copper john.

PT: Had 3 grayling & 1 trout on small goldhead and flashback PTN.

All fish returned. Grayling were mostly good sized, in range 10"-12" with one in the region of 15"+. A great days fishing.

First time on this beat and struggled to decide how to fish. However, would certainly visit again as lovely stretch of water. 2 x chub of around 2.5lb plus two lost fish (probably Chub as well).

Very good day with one lady of the stream pushing 3lbs.

Had a enjoyable days fishing on friday at Backney, the river was very clear with lots of leaves and weed coming down and the fishing was quite difficult but I managed 6 nice barbel to 7lbs.

2 dozen plus Grayling and a few small browns between the two of us. Like a couple of other correspondents, I am catching mainly smaller fish - my best Grayling might just have made the pound mark - from this venue and, catching nearly all my fish from the bottom of the beat. Any thoughts that I might have had then to the effect that (a) 2lb Grayling were a figment of the imagination and (b) the top meadow was devoid of fish were banished PDQ when Tom nailed a couple of near 2lb fish from one of the oh so enticing deep pools just downstream of the hut as we made our way back up river for lunch.

River running low and clear. Sporadic hatch but, other than a few very small fish, as far as I could tell,nothing feeding on the top. Fish taken on beaded PTN/GRHE, Copper Johns and Czech nymphs. All fish returned.
