Caught a few small fish. Lost a couple of better ones. River low and clear. Nice beat.

Caught 1 brown trout, on a nymph.

The water level was quite low. Not much feeding activity.
Rain most of the day.

Made the booking via a very informative, helpful telephone call. (Not sure if it was Allyson or Wendy that recommended the beat during the call. In any case many thanks !) Once again, the paperwork provided was first-class. Directions and supportive information all helped to get us to the bank for a prompt start.

Our anticipation heightened seeing the river in excellent condition, the beat providing several very attractive swims, and also being blessed with fine weather.

We weren't disappointed. Despite some canoeists being less than courteous and having total disregard for us or our swims, the beat provided an unforgettable day. (In fairness, some canoeists were polite and did everything possible to minimise disruption to us).

CH's fish - One Chub 2lb 4 ozs, Three Barbel weighing 6lb, 6lb 4 ozs and 9lb 4 ozs.

River dropping, light rain plenty cloud cover, ideal fishing conditions, rain became heavy at 6pm, no salmon sighted.

6 chub from 1/2 lb up to 3 1/2 lb, 2 barbel 6lb and 7 lb.
Morning fishing - poor weather, too bright, afternoon went overcast and the fish started to bite finally. Started catching after plenty of grounbait on sweetcorn.

1 x 12lb salmon, 1 x 3lb chub, 1 x 2lb brown trout.

All on fly, all returned.... do I get another extra large sweat shirt???

Fished this beat for the first time today and was really pleased to have got a decent days fishing at what can be a difficult time for trout anglers. The day started slowly considering the good cloud cover and recent rainfall, only a single fish rising to my adams parachute right at the bottom of the beat. I moved to the Brecon end of the beat shortly before lunch, partly to try and escape what was becoming a difficult downstream wind, partly to try and find some fish. It was here that I tried some nymphs for a while but with no success. I changed to a adams wolff and persevered against the downstream wind bringing 4 fish to the net (1 x 14Oz, 2 x 10Oz and 1 x 6Oz) and about a dozen to the surface. All fish being returned.

10th Jul - Penpont

I only had a short time to fish this beat today and unfortunately I have nothing to report, I may try again next week depending on weather conditions.

Had a very enjoyable day for a change. 14 Trout, 13 of which were all around the pound mark 1 was small at about 6". Mainly taken on goldhead nymphs though 3 were taken on stimulator dry fly in the evening. Pleasant surroundings I'll definitely be coming back.

17 Barbel ranging from 3lbs 14ozs to 8lbs 2ozs. 2 Chub best around 3lbs 8ozs.

At 8am the days fishing started on the downstream end of the Abernant section. The river was slightly coloured from recent rainfall and with a decent flow. During the morning 4 x WTB were caught on adam's wolff/para patterns with quite a few more being missed. All fish being approx 1/2lb and returned safely.

The adam's patterns have fished consistantly well for me on both rivers since early June and seem to be a good starting place for anglers visiting beats for the 1st time or when there is no specific insect life to target. I took 1 x 1/2lb grayling shortly after lunch on a very small BH diawl bach fished under the adam's parachute kiwi style.

I moved upstream to the Plas Gwyn section in the middle of the afternoon but given the river conditions on the day I decided that wading into the river from the right bank to facilitate fishing was solely restricted to fearless or accompanied anglers. So it was at this time that I decided to call it a day. Luckily for me just as the torrential rain began.

All in all another great days fishing provided by the WUF.
