Again frustratingly pokey and coloured when I bowled up at the Edw @ Cregrina,.... still needs a good three days to bring it down ..... the weekend it may be workable !!! Thankfully my beloved Elan Valley opens tommorrow.... yeesssssssssssss !! So I'll leave the wild streams a couple of weeks !! I always wonder why the reservoirs don't open on the 3 march too !!! The Teifi Pools do, and as the crow flies literally a couple of miles over the next series of mountains from the top of Claerwen Reservoir ..... weird !!!! But there we go ......
The fishing was tricky, as there's bedrock here, and visibility wasn't fantastic either ... tight lining the heads of pools produced four small fish, between eight and nine inches, nothing really decent .... There are some clonkers in the Edw system , all the way up at the top of Hundred House ..... Anyway, a team of two tungsten nymphs produced the goods ..... good fun .... but I always take a surreptitious approach here!! Fishing wild places on your own ... take care folks, one slip and your ankle is gone ......
The kingfisher was up and down twice ... nice to see ... Again access in heigh water ... barbed wire is literally everywhere ,no little gates for anglers , shame really!!... keep your eyes well peeled folks barbed wire !!!!! It's even in two metre sectionS snd snall cut of rusty bits, buried in the leaf litter !!! That catching your expensive Simms or Orvis waders and it's a nice steady rip and a careful session with the aquasure .... lol !! That ripping snagging sound .... eeeeeekkkkk almost as bad as the crunching sound on a car bumper .... almost !!! Ha Ha ha ....
Well, a fun couple of hours , only up to the Bridge, got out , had a mug from my flask.... and dwelled on better dry fly days ahead ..... its imminent folks .... Right, time for a Baileys coffee then pack my wet fly boxes for tommorrows sortie in the Elenydd......

Fishing:Trout (River)

The Usk still too high, but the Crai was fishable. Although no fish were caught and no flies hatching yet, it was better to be on a river than not.

Well , after inspiration from the excellent vlog done on YouTube, by Ceri and Parf ..... thought I'd venture out from the Wye catchment and head over Brecon way and give the Honddu a couple of hours ..... Got to the farmyard parking at eleven ...swimming in mud, thankfully the lady who I met on a quad suggested I park on the left prior to actually getting into the farm complex .... superb, its dry there and clean at least for getting waders on !!!! I was met by the usual border collies .... lovely dogs to be fair ....
Anyway , I guessed it may be pushing through, and boy was she ... very coloured too !!! Gggrrrrrrrrr looks like a settled week this week thankfully!! These rivers need to settle down and drop considerably...Well I set up a single 5mm silver tungsten pheasant tail... did the job in the pool runs I could get at ... fish not in feed lanes yet in these cold tributaries....I managed three lovely fish, two a bit skinny, but they'll soon fatten up .... !!! Fish were between thirteen and nine inches . A lovely couple of hours , I must admit lots of rubbish on the walk back .... not an easy beat lots of barbed wire, and awkward access to river everywhere !!! No acess points made for anglers and to be honest WUF I kind of swagged the beat start .... no plastic WUF sign ???? Must admit I do prefer the Edw,Arrow Lugg and Cammarch as far as my first recce goes ?? ... Years and years I've been fishing the wild streams, but never been here, always nice to try a new beat, may give it another crack mid May .... on a sultry insecty evening ..... lol !!!
Anyway a fun couple of hours, called in at The Wye stretch over thr Bridge at Builth, had two lovely brownies from there .... nice ... looking forward to dry fly action on that beat its superb . Another wild stream tommorrow, lovely job!!! And best of all today we had sun, and thirteen degrees !! Awesome!
