Mostly cloudy day, with light winds. Fished dry all day, and had 7 trout in the net of varying size. Lost at least that many, just couldn't keep them on the hook today.

Caught all fish on dry flies fishing pocket water. Upstream breeze made casting tricky at times.

Beautiful beat but difficult fishing. Huge hatch of flies around 2pm but no evidence of any interested fish and river seemed devoid of life until late afternoon when finally saw 2 fish rising on walk back to car. Managed to catch both, one about a pound and the other about a pound and a half.

Didn't catch any salmon. Saw one though moving through beat four. Earlier in the day fised beats 2 and 3. This is nice varied water but I was plagued by canoeists. One in a group of 8 capsized in front of me. Then they all spent 10 minutes messing about in the swim trying to sort out the capsized canoe. They then parked up in the next swim downstream (about 50yrds away) and spent the next 10 mins loudly messing about lobbing and skimming stones into the river. It looked like most of the canoeists were getting out at the pub which is halfway down the beat, so I moved downstream below the pub and it was much quieter. Shame really because the stretch upstream is lovely.
As i say, didn't manage to move any salmon but I did have 4 trout ... all under a pound but v pretty.
I also have a v sunburned head (only on one side ... natch!)

Second visit of the weekend and was hoping with better weather. Staring under suspension bridge and manged a decent Garyling 10inc on again JBarnes emerger pattern as there was a fair hatch at the time. Access to from Hut to Spout was very difficult and is needs attention although did manage to get to the Spout. A lot of water coming through but had no luck and didn't find the fish. Tried the Ferry Pool but again with no luck. Again weather didn't help.
PS: Had a great stay at The Cedars Guest house - Builth Wells. Best breakfast in town and easy parking outside 5 stars.

I fished over the Coronation Weekend Sunday and expected to find the water busy - but far from it. I had plenty of Bank to myself. It was my first visit with the only information available to me a positive promising video on YouTube. It struck I was a good time of year to try my luck as the bracken and bank based foliage was still not showing so back casting would be easy. Certainly waders are required and I tried half a dozen access points along the roadside and it was very simple wading for the most part. It was still and overcast on arrival - but few fish on the surface so I tested the waters with a beaded nymph. Long cast at 45 degs so not too far from the bank. Big hit on fifth cast. Over the next three hours, one step cast, one step cast I had half dozen fish , one just under a pound but had numerous takes that were clearly superior fish. Just before lunch I stroke gold - with a beautiful 2 pound fish but lost him in the acting landing him. It was as a good as a catch he just found freedom without the need for me to touch him. The afternoon was quieter the wind which had picked up turned direction and the sun came out. All in all a lovely piece of water. Would be great to have a boat on it… but alas. One odd thing… I saw a huge trout jump fully out of the water and to my eyes at least it booked like a rainbow, maybe someone else can reference if they have seen any rainbows present - which would be a turn up. For those who feel comfortable wading - and the mystery of wild trout water - this was a lovely day.
