7 Trout

Lots of water in the river but good visability. Cool east wind, sunny spells.Started at the bottom of the beat, nothing rising so tried nymphing, had 3 fish, all under a pound. Moved upstream expecting to see some hatching LDO's but only saw 2 or 3 and no rising fish. Worked upstream to the bridge nymphing a few stretches on the way. No more fish caught and only saw one rising fish.

Lost one Beat 4. Several fish showing.

Fished Abernant for 2 days. No fish seen or caught. Disappointing given the conditions. Also an old Oak from the opposite bank has fell victim to the recent storms and is now laid in the head of the main run - Lady Alexandra. Such a shame... Probably good news for fish habitat but not chances of catching on this beat.

Lovely place to fish, surrounded as it is with beautiful scenery. There was a March Brown hatch in the middle of the day but not a later one, possibly due to a strong and cold easterly wind. Caught one very nice fish of the order of 45cm, maybe a little longer so about 2lbs according to one nomogram, on a wet March Brown fished upstream to a rising fish.

Tough afternoon. Very windy . Anglers packing up as I arrived and 3 others came and went whilst I was there. No fish no takes.

One 1lb brown trout caught on a size 12 nymph, both fish and river in super condition.
