The river was at a good height (0.99m on the Erwood gauge and dropping 5cm during the day). Clarity was also reasonable despite having lifted by over 60cm a few days earlier. At this level it was possible to give the salmon flies a good swing through most of the pools. A path has been strimmed through the wood, making it much easier to access the upper limit of the beat (much appreciated bankside maintenance, many thanks!). I was surprised not to see any salmon but two nice oos brownies (up to 1.5lb) saved me a blank.

Not the best of days, just the 1 Chub. My baby brother come along for the trip and he thoroughly enjoyed playing with the swans for 3 hours so at least one of us went home happy ????

Barbel 6.5lbs. 1 chub 3lbs 2oz. The rest were all over 4lbs with the best 4.14. River was higher than 3 weeks ago and pushing through well. Slightly coloured. Weed was a problem throughout the day. The Fishing Passport website was excellent.

Phenomenal day, love this stretch of river last time I fished it, it was flooding hard. Completely different story today. Tea coloured water good visibility.

Every pool where is was slightly deeper with running water at the head of it was holding grayling mostly all shoaled up. Catching one meant there were another 5 at least m that I could get out of the same area.

I fished dries all day, it’s pretty close quarters so an 8ft 4wt to get in amongst the trees. Pretty much any fly would work as long as it was small. I know cause I was down to my last 18 and 20 by the end of the day, olives, duns, sedges.

Most productive was the pool mid bend, in the upper section, and the section below the cottage. Both of them netted over 10 in less than an hour.
