Unable to fish due to amount of weed coming down the river. Tried both feeder and float. Hooked into a barbel first cast and took on the drop, but hook pulled due to amount of weed on the line. After a couple of hours of bringing in weed every 2 mins (rod being dragged off rest), we decided to move stretch to see if conditions better elsewhere.

Fishing improved during the course of the day as the water level fined down a little. Nice chub on legered meats.

Lovely afternoon. Strong wind. Fast flowing but clear water. No greyling, but 3 small brown trout caught and released upstream nymphing on Red Neck PTN. Two larger fish dropped on upper section.

Water was coloured first thing but cleared throughout the day. Started French nymphing, pink tags and Duracells but the trout were having all of it early, all were kept wet and released ranging from fingerlings to one just sub 2lbs I guess.

I changed out to dries early morning, no action whatsoever. Until just before close out on light at the end of the day, took two grayling on a red tag dry fly and blue dun. Both in faster water than I would expect between the white water and the foam lines below rapids. I couldn’t figure them all day so assuming they are all grouped up and holding.

After 12hrs of nothing I was completely resigned to a blank, then in the last 40mins absolute carnage broke loose! 3 of the barbel were around the 8lb mark, one was around 7lb and I also had a smaller one for good measure. Standard feeder tactics in the woods accounted for all the fish.
