No fish I’m afraid but a lovely beat. Saw a couple and missed two but none to the net today.

Have never fished here when the water is quite so low, with just 5" on the WUF gauge. Quite a lot of gravel has moved since last here as well. Water 15 degrees. The intermittent blustery downstream wind didn't help today, and the almost total absence of any insects made for hardly any rising fish. Had two trout on bugs and "caught" many more cased caddis! The rest of the fish came to Grayling Steel Blue, and size 18 HE emerger and HE and olive Duck's Duns. All bar three were non-risers, so at least some fish were looking up. Trout from 9 - 12" and the ladies 10- 13". A hard day for sure but not too bad given the conditions.

2 anglers block booked the beat. Fished well all morning and early afternoon. Good sized barbel and chub at the start (5lb chub and 7lb barbel), with a smaller stamp of barbel every cast in the afternoon. We left at 4pm, but no doubt the later hours would have seen even more fish landed.

Only comment is the advertised well maintained and accessible bank is no more - a lot of fallen trees and wading was required (or a scramble down a steep bank from the footpath to get to the pool) - not one for the less able bodied or over loaded angler.

Arrived at the river mid morning and it was looking good! Trotting as usual the main flow and had plenty of small chub. However the barbel decided to show and caught 3 between 5/7 lb all on the stick float. Fantastic sport as I always say 1 on the stick is worth 20 on the lead. Also managed a chub 4lb. Once again thank you Team and the river Wye for a wonderful days fishing. God bless the queen..

Unfortunately I’ve had to head home early as a bit of a problem so didn’t get to fish today. Took a look before I drove home though and looks like a lovely stretch with a few rises around 8am. Very heavy bushes along bank made access a bit difficult but as I knew I wasn’t fishing I probably gave up a bit easy.

River had a reasonable flow although expect much lower levels presented easier wading than usual.
One nice big fish caught early on to F-fly from deep channel on lower part of beat. That promised a productive day’s fishing however it did not materialise. Gusty wind? Bright sunshine? Gin clear water? Poor skills? Who knows?

Theres been a bit of rain so river has had a bit of a flush through. Dropping back down again though. The day started as we parked up …. Two other anglers were peering off Llanstephan bridge so went and said hello, they were the rods on Gromain for the day. Was good to chat.
On walking down to the river we were greeted by 4 cormorants on the best pool followed by 3 goosanders – not a good start. There was a tricky downstream breeze, with little insect life and no visibly rising fish to be seen. Not a good omen. And fishing the usual glides brought no response. However it was a very different story in the faster water at the top of the beat. There was a significant head of 2 year old grayling in the 8 to 10 inch category willing to rise to a fly… and even a couple of this years 2 inchers joined in. Bigger fish and trout were largely absent although a couple did come to hand.
We finished with 39 fish to our parachute dries – not bad on a day that didn’t look promising initially. Best grayling 17”, best trout 18”.
Knotweed logged with Louis and the team for attention - and theres a large owl who always escorts us off the beat when we leaving in the evening, if it’s a tawny it’s the biggest I have ever seen!
