Bright sunny day with a gentle upstream breeze, river very low and clear.

Started at the bottom of the beat and saw fish taking regularly off the top. These were very gentle rises, and at first I thought they were small fish, however I got within about 30ft of a 12 inch fish feeding in about 10 inches of water. I presented 10 different fly patters to this fish, ranging from size 14 to size 20 and never once did it move off station to even look at the fly. I also tried sub surface flies, and the lightest tippet I had with me not slightest bit of interest.

As I was directly below this fish I tried to spot anything in the water that it might be taking, but I really couldn't see anything, even when kneeling and putting my hand on the bottom for some contrast.

There were two hatches during the day which brought on some sporadic rises, and I did manage to get three takes, but missed two and lost one.

All of the fish I caught came from the faster runs on the nymph, although I did lose a particularly large fish that I thought was a rock when I hooked it. I'm guessing me trying to flick the fly off the "rock" didn't help the hook hold!

As always such a pleasure to see Bugeilyn come into sight as you round the crest, conditions not exactly ideal, v sunny, wind intially blowing down the Llyn toward boathouse. Made our way upto the top end on the left bank and picked up a few. It really came on later in the day when a hatch got the fish rising and all taken off the top on the usual dries. The stamp of the fish has definatly improved, all a good size and fiesty.
We were not the only ones fishing either, we had the pleasure of watching an Osprey circling and diving in and on its third attempt made off with a trout in its claws, very impressive.

Lots of surface activity when we arrived but within an hour it had gone quiet. Lots of small fish in the top two pools which is good to see.

Sat down about 2 for some lunch at the bottom of the third pool down and watched a shoal of grayling swimming about taking things off the bottom with the occasional one taking something very small from the surface. The one trout we saw was taking the same flies from the surface but he was too clever and managed to avoid anything small we could show him.

Didn’t go all the way down to the bottom of the beat, the low water made it feel like it wasn’t worth it and we’ve mainly found that to be the place to go when the grayling are about. Gave the top three pools another fish through until it got too dark and cold so called it a day with 8 trout between me and dad. We will be back when hopefully we will have had some rain!

Our report for today is largely the same as the previous day except that there were no clouds at all and the breeze dropped a little making it even harder to catch fish. We blanked today. but promised ourselves a return visit when conditions might be more favourable and we would be able to stay for the evening rise.

Lower beat. River very low after weeks of no rain, very shallow on rapids and deeper water with poor flow. No fish rising despite hatching buzzer, olives and a few mayfly but managed 2 on a weighted GRHE nymph. Lovely spot but needs at least another meter depth.

River exceptionally low. Bright conditions. Hatches of yellow May duns, midges, a few mayfly. Not at all easy. One fish on a dry fly, one fish on an olive spider.
