Decent hatch but managed to move nothing apart from a small chub. Gusty headwind made things tricky.

Plenty of mayfly although surprisingly few fish rising although weather was sunny and bright. Landed a hard fighting plump fish in the lower section that was safely returned. Lovely stretch of river although top section fairly difficult to access. Could do with a drop of rain!

When I arrived the river was low and clear with little sign of life, add to this an annoying down stream breeze and bright sunshine and I didn't fancy my chances. Didn't have a touch for the first hour, and was beginning to think I was wasting my time. There was hardly enough flow to move the nymphs, which kept getting stuck on the bottom.

Finally I got to some faster water and lost a good fish, due to thinking the fly was snagged, and didn't lift properly. A second run down resulted in a cracking 14" trout. The rest of the fish were all around 10-12", and all except one were taken on a black nymph, the last on a clinkhammer. Lost a further two and missed a couple of takes too.

Turned out to be a good day after all.

What a lovely stretch. Levels were low and all fish came from the fast, shallow runs. Some big grayling over 1lb and 2 nice trout (2lb). If you're wading - and you'll need to - a wading staff is a must. The amount of bankside vegetation is daunting at first but access points have been cut out. If you can get in (depending on levels) you can work your way from there. Access is easier the further up you go. Sunshine, quality fish, what a lovely day to be out. Most fish on a small red collar jig nymph dropper.

Lovely day and setting, but gushy wind made fishing difficult. Lack of rising fish or sight of fish also didnt help. Had two plucks of PTN.

River low and very clear. Bright and breezy afternoon with nothing rising. Tried spiders and duo with no response. More hatches started at 5 to 6 pm and fish started to rise at around 7 pm. We netted 3 WBT between 1 to 1.5 lbs (safely returned) and 3 good fish slipped the hook (probably due to our incompetence!). All fish caught on Jonathan Barnes Soft Hackle dries and we were never sure what the fish were feeding on. Lovely afternoon and evening on the water.

A cold clear night gave way to a warm sunny day, very slow start with no bites until mid afternoon, things improved rapidly and ended up with 5 carp including 3 doubles, the best going 15lb 4oz, lost two more to hook pulls.
Being a clay lake visibility is very poor, you need to keep a close watch on the water to find them.!
