River perfect, weather terrific, fishing very slow, but a fantastic autumn day. Tried everything but one of those days. A very friendly big white goose like anglers

River running low and clear, but suited me for my first look at this beat. Started at the bottom, and caught my best grayling (15") within the first 30mins (losing two of similar size). Worked my way up, switching from tight-line nymphing in the ripples to klink-n-dink on the flats. Majority of grayling around 10", four of them barely 6". Lovely, leaping OOS brownie, and a couple of fit 10oz chub, all made for an active few hours. Quite a few yappy dogs being walked on the footpath on the opposite bank was the days only disappointment.

River falling slowly with little colour. Weather mild and cloudy. I hoped I might pick up a barbel or two but it was not to be and I had to be content with a couple of evening chub up to about 3lbs (and a bigger one lost in the bankside vegetation). Just the same a very pleasant mid-November session.

The river was coloured with 1'6" visibility when I arrived, but cleared steadily and had dropped by around 4" by the end of the afternoon. One feisty 14" brown trout along with 13 grayling to 15" all carefully returned. Fun to float fish maggots for grayling with a centrepin reel for the first time. There are not so many places suited to trotting on this beat, but it is a lovely section of the Lugg and I will return to it during permitted fly fishing times.
