A hard day of fishing. Very little sign of fish at the surface. A brisk wind made it hard to cast. Nice location though.

Walked up hill to back of wood. Decided getting to swims in wood was too precarious with gear for three oaps! Continued downstream and found no swims. Back to fishing hut and fished either side with pellet and luncheon meat after recovering. Being a footpath, dogs and swimmers a real problem but fish obliging.

What an incredible days fishing. Fished from sunrise to an hour after dark and I reckon I'd still be catching now if allowed. The river was fairly low and clear, as others have mentioned it was useful for feature spotting. Dawn and dusk naturally produced the most sport but I caught steadily throughout the day. I could have probably caught a lot more chub in the afternoon when the barbel stopped biting but instead I walked the stretch feeding a few swims. It clearly worked as I caught from all 9 swims I tried. All fish fell to standard pellet in the feeder and pellet on the hook tactics. If I'd landed every fish I hooked I'd have easily made it to 30 barbel but one swim in particular seems to have a rather nasty snag which the barbel loved!

A quick word on the bailiff Stefan, really friendly bloke who was obliging in his knowledge of the stretch. Sure enough each swim he mentioned contained plenty of fish. And if you're reading this Stefan, I tried the swim you asked me to and had 2 chub and a barbel in fairly bright sun. I'm sure if I'd fished it at dusk it would have produced even more.

All in all an incredibly memorable days fishing. The smallest barbel was about 3 and half pound and the largest just over 8. Most fish were around the 6lb mark. Chub to 4 and a half pounds and a little six ounce jack decide he fancied the taste of pellet too.

What a fishery, what a session and what a shame I live 100 miles away!
