I fished from midday until it was dark - which was late on this, the longest day of the year.
River was fairly coloured, but a good height and definitely fishable.
No sign of any fish for the first couple of hours as I worked my way down the beat, then a stretch of river with several fish rising kept me entertained for the rest of the day. Obstinately sticking to dry flies, I worked my way through my fly box and managed to convince a few fish to investigate and had about 5 takes, only one of which resulted in a fish in the net: a nice 11 WBT.

A variety of different insects emerging over the course of the day, including quite a few yellow duns and a lone mayfly.
Lots of fun trying to outsmart the fish, but mostly they won!

please see my comments on 19th June about the swims. Fishing wise it was Ok for a river that was low, I only fished a few hours and had a Barbel of 9-11 and a Chub of 5-12. Canoeists became a problem quite early in the day, managed to hook one but it got away.

Another great day - trotting with pellets - lots of chub and a nice barbel - a very well kept beat - a big thank you to Colin for keeping it so nice.

Beat:Bideford Brook

Fishing:Trout (River)

6 x trout 6-10 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. The "other" was a salmon parr which I haven't seen here for a while. The river low and quiet, waiting for rain.
Otherwise, I'm afraid I dropped a real clanger this morning. This was supposed to be my day off, but I thought I would sneak out for a couple of hours on Bideford Brook this morning. Accordingly, I'm sure I checked at ten past six last night to see if the beat was clear. I must have been half asleep or looked at the wrong month or something, because the beat WAS booked and I must must have spoiled the fishing for two very nice gentlemen who showed up later. I feel very badly about this, particularly in view of my habit of criticizing other people who do this sort of thing. They were very nice about it, but once again my humble apologies.

Beat:Llynfi Dulas Middle

No. of Anglers:1

Well for a change headed for the Llynfi Dulas; middle beat this morning . Decidedly cooler and overcast , reading 16 in my truck when I parked up and had a survey of the valley below . It's a lovely view of the little Llynfi Dulas down in the valley . Quickly set up , opting for the usual small streams six foot two weight rod and tied on a Parachute Pheasant tail . A lot of insects on the go , sedges , olives and some mayfly showing from eleven bells . And the fish were looking up for scoff from the word go !!!!!

A great three hour s, didn't even make it to the deep pool were the Brook comes in but had some lovely sport , sticking to just the Parachute dry , lovely splashy takes this morning , superb !!! Lots of activity in the glides too and a lovely sight seeing the wild resident brownies rising confidently in the water too . . and also from the resident kingfishers , they were busy up and down too !!!

Some good fish this morning in a tally of ten too ! Most in the seven to ten inch bracket , but I did have two crackers , maybe eleven and twelve inches respectively , lovely , and a run around on the two weight rod too !!!

Next time I'm here I'll do the full beat , I had some jobs to crack on with back at the Ponderosa , so although it was a brief visit , still a varied sporting one , loved it !!!! Can't think why I don't come here more tbh !! It's is messy and needs a lot of attention , looks like the lower does too reading. B. P. 's report last week !!! Both need a good haircut and some major T.L.C !!!!!! So there's you go WUF the Llynfi Dulas , both beats are messy messy messsy !!!!! Stick it on your " To Do " !!!! List .

That said I personally dont mind a scramble about , and some lovely trout here if you cast carefully , and use stealth and cunning !! back here soon to do the full beat , a superb three hours . . . . . Spot on !!!!
