Saw only about half a dozen rises for my session between 12 and 5. Ended up catching 8 trout on Pale Wateries, Clink and Dink, and upstream nymph. No sign of grayling - as it was the first time fishing here I did not know where they might be holed up.

Quite a tough day on this picturesque beat.
Great access and being able to drive along the beat is a bonus.
One barbel of 9.5 and a chub.

decided to try the top beat today(down from the bridge) first time i`ve fished this, very nice, mostly pocket water but not too fast and plenty of spots to run nymphs through. it looked a bit trouty and so it proved because the only grayling i managed to tempt were near the bridge in the deeper slower run. grayling to 14" and trout to 12".
many thanks to the WUF for a lovely 5 days on their waters over here in wales, even the weather was good,no rain, thats a first!

The river had dropped back after the recent high water and was running clear.
Heavy fog kept the hatching insects down until later afternoon.
Good parking, access and easy wading (although from this time of year on keep an eye open for salmon redds
and it's probably best to avoid where you can't clearly see the bottom)
Most of the fish came to swung spiders. Partridge and orange, and Black and Peacock worked best.
Later in the day there were a few rising fish and a couple of grayling did rise to dries.
A very pleasant day on a lovely piece of water
Many Thanks

Spent the day being guided by Mr Oliver Burch. Very misty to start with but once the sun got through it was a glorious autumn day.

Oliver’s knowledge of the river was amazing and before I knew it I was into my first grayling. He showed me how to fish spiders which was completely new to me.

This was my first time on the Wye, and without Oliver’s expert guidance I would not have known where to start.

Ended the day with five grayling and one out of season brownie. Thank you Oliver for your time and patience.

Where do I start ,parked middle gate (lower) and walk down to car park glad we did, a little over grown plus tree fallen across track. This took around 40 mins to clear not too bad for me but my mate being elderly not so good. Anyways got car down to steps down to river and they are not has bad has some reports that I have read, river in good nick there was anglers on other bank, as this was a new beat for me had a walk about first my mate fished by bridge. Have to say great beat very long and varied swims but not easy to get to water. Shallow to left of bridge deeper to right. As for the fishing I did a bit had one barbel lost one, but will deff be back to give another go.

Caught eight fish , mostly on the lower part of the beat two nymphs including two browns.Once we were on the middle part of the beat by mid afternoon the dam had released water so coloured the water and made it unfishable. Grayling to 12 inches
WUF note: Dam water is invariably clear if a little peaty, colour will have come from tributaries
