Slightly coloured 11 pounder caught on size 10 Cascade at Upper Planks about 6pm, where the flow was just about right in the streamy water, even if (at 10") it seemed a bit low for Bathing Pool and Lower Planks, etc

Very nice beat, fished the stretch just up from the hut, as I'm sure most people do - going further down requires a bit of commitment - took a break in the middle of the day to have a look in the wooded bit . some tasty pegs in there, but don't be tempted to take a short cut - the wall of mud is completely impassible with fishing gear.
This stretch was stuffed with salmon crashing about - and a few barbel as well, had five and a few chub, quite tricky fishing with a very snaggy bottom. Great place to spend a day, plenty of fish about

I really love this venue, my mate not quite so and on this occasion the river was low and clear, but we managed to persuade a few fish to take our baits. Our tactics were to use feeders loaded with Hemp and Halibut Pellets with either pellet or Luncheon Meat on the hook. The fish really came on the feed later in the day and as we were leaving at sunset, my rod was still being pulled round by ravenous Chub. The other was a massive Eel, which actually took two Cheesy Garlic 8mm Pellets!

The predicted rain didn't come so I had a pleasant day on the river, overcast warm with only a light wind. Access was very difficult. Through the gate you are faced with five foot high stinging nettles and shrub, I used my wading staff to hack a path to the river, only to find I was faced with a big drop onto soft mud and had to back track to find another entry point. Two flies lost in the first three casts wasn't a good start. I used dry flies throughout and managed to consistently get rises to them, but I think they were always very small and never managed to connect. Walked the entire beat, one dead sheep on the bank quite new. Exit at the top of the beat was tricky, walked back to my car along the road.
