9 x grayling 6-14 inches, 2 x out of season trout 10-12 inches, Grayling Steel Blue, Yellow Bumble, Red Tag. A very slow morning with not a rise to be seen anywhere. Only when the sun came out after lunch did a few put their heads up very occasionally.

Two nieces and a nephew fished for late season rainbows. Pleasant day but no fish, although hooked and lost one after brief tussle.

A day catching many more leaves than fish and being showered by acorns from the magnificent oaks that line the banks. This is a beautiful stretch of the Irfon, tricky wading and some large deep pools. Smallest grayling 10" and largest 15" all fighting fit ! All fish on size 16 dry flies ...Grey Duster, Para Adams, Griffiths Gnat and Greenwells. Great day!

Warm for late October but the rising fish were not as abundant as hoped although a few were evident either side of lunchtime. Some success with olive patterns during a sparse hatch but most came to the nymph with the french leader leading the way. Grayling pink nymphs were not as successful as drab beaded nymphs in the very clear water. Best fish was 17" (measured with a tape) with many in the 12" to 15" range as well.

As usual a lovely day fishing on the Wye, not the most productive day we've ever had but enjoyable none the less. Anyone staying down the night before would be wise to try "the Old Mill" at Hoarwithy coupled with a scoff in the New Harp makes for a good night.

Lovely to be back on this most scenic and accessible beat - lots of small fish rising with which I consistently failed to connect. Had a good out of season trout later on a hares ear nymph. River fairly low today.
