Water clear, heavy shower late morning brought some colour to water for a while. Heavy hatching, mayfly and midges, fish feeding but limited at surface. Trout - brown small, 4-inch / nominal weight plus decent 1 1/2 pound / 10-inch brownie. Both on black weighted nymph. Same fly took series of dace late afternoon - all around 6-inches. Excellent pint and steak at the Bell in Skenfrith afterwards.

River was coloured and carrying a bit of water but dropped 3 inches while I was there. Meat and pellets accounted for the fish which came steadily throughout the day. Would have caught more if I didn't have to spend so much time tackling up after getting repeatedly snagged. A good day overall.

8 fish caught French nymphing, mostly black bead, brown body. Two caught on dry fly, one of these approx. 1 1/2 pound plus. All others around three quarters to one pound. Dry fly used was black and red hopper size 14. The nymph body had fluoro orange wire through the body. All fish were in good condition.
As an Australian tourist I think the booking system needs attention to make it easier for travellers who don't have access to a printer.
Please note that due to poor weather conditions on Monday 11th, my permit was altered to Wednesday 13th.
(WUF Note: Those without printers can save the booking confirmation, maps & directions on a smartphone or other device and take it with them on the day. Otherwise, we’d be absolutely delighted to hear suggestions on improving our booking system.

1'10"stained and falling.
Looked perfect for the top pools which we fished through carefully with just 2 trout to show for efforts- went down to Llangoed pool and fished through the gutters above and the pool several times, fish showing here. Third time through a salmon took the Wooly Bugger on the dangle at the head of the pool. 15 seconds of thrashing and then all slack! At least my mate had more luck. Had to leave at 5pm- Thank you WUF

Good afternoon fishing 7 fish to hand 4 / 6 / inch caught on black midge. Met a day ticket holder on the beat although when I checked the website Tuesday night the beat was available. Spoke to the fisherman who was happy to fish the rest of beat. I then left soon after.

What a lovely place. The drive to the beat 5 car parking is so pleasant. Fished beats 4 and 5 on a river fining down but still a foot too high for float fishing.
We had 17 chub, 3 barbel and 1 trout(on pellet) mostly on feeder and meat. Some came to pellet.
Saw some salmon anglers who were extremely friendly. Would love to go back when river slightly lower to explore this beautiful stretch.

Well I certainly picked the right day with water dropping to 1ft 10ins following the last spate. First 10lb cock fish took a Willie Gun 1" tube just to the left of the big rock in the Bridge pool. Same fly for an 8lber in the Gravel Catch which took just inside the boil under the over-head cables . Both landed before 9am. Fished the Rock Pool next but no takers.
I returned to the Rock pool at 6pm and fished down with a cone-head Ally tube hooking a very acrobatic silver grilse right at the bottom but after about five minutes it decided to release itself. Fished the whole pool down again with a size 12 cross-Crathie/Silver Stoat double and 10lb cock fish followed the fly from near the big rock and took mid-stream. A fantastic experience, fully appreciated to land three salmon from three different pools on the same day.
