Fished Cregrina below the bridge for 2 hours in the morning but with no fish caught. Getting to the bottom of beat quite tricky but worth persevering down the very steep banks to a very wild (and I suspect little-fished) beat. Disturbed an unidentified bird of prey (Buzzard?) off one of the stream mini-cliffs which was quite a shock - those birds are huge close-up! A downpour at noon signalled an early lunch and a move to Hergest for the afternoon.

After fishing Cregrina in the morning I moved to Hergest for my last trout fish of the year :-( and like Thursday on Aberedw, the fish only turned up in the afternoon. I have caught a lot of fish on the Edw this year, mostly around 10". Today most fish were on 12" with only one less than that. One was more. I thought I had caught my largest Edw fish yesterday but the best of the day was 14" Edw trophy from shallow fast moving water on a CDC dry. Goodbye and thanks to the Edw until next year.

Second day on this stretch. River falling with bright sunshine so not perfect conditions. We decided to try a bit of float fishing off some shingle at the end of the stretch, this was great until a salmon angler appeared in his 4x4 on the opposite bank. We were just discussing yielding to the salmon rod as we knew we should, when without even getting out of the car, he rang the ghillie and then parked up. He then took a photo of us fishing and told the ghillie we were spinning! My husband hooked a nice chub and then he told the ghillie we had just caught a salmon! After several attempts (he was too agitated to listen), we shouted across that we had caught a chub and were float fishing. "They are float fishing apparently" he said and with no further word (or apology) walked off. The ghillie (or farmer) then appeared in his car but he did not have the courtesy to speak to us either. It didn't spoil our day but it was disappointing that he was unable to tell the difference between a spinner and a float and a chub and a salmon. Very discourteous.
