Fished mid-morning to mid-afternoon but only tempted one wbt of 6 inches. In fact I didn't see another fish all day or any rises. The fish took a small black nymph fished under an elk hair caddis. Weather was overcast and quite chilly for late May. There was a good hatch (spinners I think) in the middle of the day, but nothing rising.
This is a nice little stream for three or four hours fishing, in beautiful countryside. Despite taking a stealthy approach all day, I was disappointed not to see more fish. I guess that's fishing.

A rather cold and cloudy day with an upstream wind. This day was supposed to be for salmon fishing, but by this morning the freshet following the weekend's rain had already dwindled away and the level was back down to 1 foot. After nothing seen or touched while fishing with the double handed rod, I put a trout dry fly rod up after lunch. There were some pale wateries around along with a few true mayflies, but what the fish really wanted were the olive uprights which continued to come off in waves during the afternoon. 17 x trout 10-15 inches, 2 x out of season grayling, on Parachute Adams. Nice fat fish, making quite a contrast to the slim ones we were catching in early March. Left at 5.30 with trout still rising in places.

First time here, weather was overcast with the temperature half what it was yesterday at 11C. I walked the length of the beat which is very pretty, very peaceful and secluded but the first thing I noticed was a complete lack of insect life, however this was to change through the day as quite a number of small olives and small, pale yellow upwings started to emerge bringing the fish up with them. Although I had a few fish on a gold head nymph from the pool mid beat it was the large pool and the short stretch of river running into it where the beat starts that would provide most sport to dry flies later in the day. A challenging and very enjoyable days fishing with plenty of missed takes and lost fish, one quite big, to add to the total caught.

My first experience of this beautiful beat. A rather cold and overcast morning with nothing much showing. It took me three hours to reach the midpoint, so many interesting fishy pools to explore. Six fish, all to nymphs including one 12” beauty from the pool just below where the Triffrwd joins.

Cloudy and overcast all day but dry and cold. The river was running clear and there was little evidence of either fish or fly activity in the morning when I arrived (08-00hrs.)
First time wading and only my second time river fly fishing. Found it all a bit wobbly but great fun. Tried nymphs first then a dry without success. After lunch noticed some good fly activity which turned out to be a good may hatch and took my 3 fish on a mayfly. The fish were having a feeding frenzy and had I been more experienced and skilful would have caught more. A great experience and will return.

A cold day for the time of year, few rising trout. Saw no rising fish in the morning. And fell in, so had to return to my van on the caravan site in Pandy for dry clothes, and a snooze. Went back later, saw a few rising fish and managed to catch one trout, 7 inches. Lost a second, missed a few more.

Caught nothing and getting a bit fed up of having to leave early because of inconsiderate behaviour from other anglers. Extremely loud music being played that could be heard all around the water.

River still running quite high for this tricky wading beat, (river temperature is more than refreshing still!)but this year the Usk is fishing extremely well, think water temperatures have remained low. Caught on nymph in pocket and dry in flats. Great to see smaller <6inch trout being caught showing the population of trout thriving as long as we all practice careful catch and release. The Usk is a gem, lets keep it that way.
