I have many fond memories of this beat. sadly, the new fencing has changed everything. It looks pretty permanent, so I doubt that I will visit this lovely sketch of the river Lugg again.

Had a good day fishing this stretch which we had not visited before with 6 WBT up to about 1lb.
Interestingly we had a 'conversation' with another angler who was fishing the top end of the beat as a member of the Merthyr club and who thought that the Passport scheme beat was less extensive than as shown on the beat map provided to us? It would be helpful for the benefit of other anglers to clarify this situation and if part of the beat is shared then it would be good to make this clear on the web site.

Great day. The lower Edw offers a good variety of pools. The water quality was very good. A bit too early for the May fly. Just returned the one small brown trout from a brown Klinkhammer.

The river was looking very low. But had a great day with the guide Jonathan Morris. Very helpfull and informative. A needed lesson to brush up on my casting. Now I have seen the beat this low and with tips from Jonathan I will enjoy the beat all more next time I fish.

Another day on the River Usk and fishing a beat that we hadn't been to before. After a very relaxing night in the Wellington we headed down to the river. The heavens opened whilst we were setting up and we got fairly wet! However, it didn't last too long and the sun came out and warmed things up very quickly. A few fish were spotted rising just before the junction pool and a tiny 2 inch fish was taken on a small olive cdc. The colours on that fish were spectacular and it was safely released to put on a couple of pounds. I spooked a big fish the next cast putting the fly on the water too hard... We headed up into the junction pool where 3 very good fish were sipping away. Again they were being fussy but a size 20 cdc home tied fly did the job on a spectacularly marked fish of 20 inches! The fish on the far side came up to the same pattern but I missed it! After another half an hour of fly changing and the same fish rising I tempted him with a greenwell's glory - lovely fish of 16 inches. The day then got quiet and fish stopped rising and certainly were not taking any nymphs we put in front of them... Until we had a late afternoon rise where I picked up to small fish in 2 casts and a couple of others below the junction pool. Again lovely day fishing with a mate, couldn't ask for anything more! We will return!

River in good condition, running clear. A few fish showed in the Gabion and at the Van Stone.
Fished hard all day to no avail, a few plucks by trout. A limited amount of boat traffic, with few canoes about between 10:00 and 1:00. Good lunch in the "Hosterie" - highly recommended. Until next time...
